Top Tier Gasoline

In the 6.2L thread there are a few posts about ethanol or premium, performance & cost etc. going.

Was going to add this there, but it is kind of on its own.

So does anyone pay attention to the top tier gasoline way of thinking? Do the additives truly make a difference in how your vehicle runs?

Have only filled my truck up once since purchase & stopped at a local Mobil. They have 93, but it was significantly higher than local grocery store premium fuel. Just curious is all...

I stick with name brand fuel and that's about it. Try to avoid supporting Speedway since they supposedly are the ones responsible for the absurd prices/price swings in the Great Lakes region.

I run Chevron 80% of the time. Work credit card is with them and its a good quality

I run anything that isn't ethanol, usually 89. I use the Lucas additive every half dozen tanks or so. The additive actually seems to help some.

I run gas mostly from my local Gulf station. That's the only place I buy gas in my area. Now if I'm out somewhere else I get from either Sunoco, Hess, or Shell in that order. I always run premium too.

I have a Chevron jones, and really do believe it's better gas. We took a 1500 mile round trip last year, during which time I couldn't always get Chevron. I could readily feel the lack of performance in the gas pedal and see it on the MPG readout.

I try to stick with the name brands. Around here (I have no clue how big they are) a chain called "Quick-N-Ez" has several stations. When I started working in the area and went from the BP/Amoco/Philips66, whatever to their gas my mileage went downhill bad. Like 4-6 MPG worse. Took me a few weeks before I realized what the change was. Went back to a different brand and with that one tank the mileage went back up 4 mpg! Not just one tank here, several tanks always ran poor mpg's through my vehicles from them. There has been a time or two over the last few years where they were convenient so I tried a tankful from them again. Same thing. So I stay away from them.

I have had about 50% of the fill-ups from another chain around here "Thornton's" do the same.

Of course the worst tank of gas I ever got was from a Shell. Must have had a lot of water in it. Truck would not even idle with it.

I would say around here (tankers come from the south, like Wood River/Alton IL area I think?) my safest bets are BP and Road Ranger.

You do not live very far away as those are my choices as well. I live about 10 miles SW of Springfield.

Have always tried to buy branded fuel. Years ago in high school they use to market the brands more & there was a Amoco & Shell across the street from one another. Always filled at the Amoco as it was still a service station with bays & convenience store was a afterthought(miss those). Anyway a friend of mine worked down the street at a bank & would watch the tanker go to both the Amoco & Shell stations. She killed my theory on Amoco fuel (marketing) being better than Shell.
