Transfer Case Noise after fluid change

Hi Folks,

 

I have a 2000 Tahoe 5.3 Vin T with the electronic selectable 4WD option. It has 110K miles on it and has been regularly serviced as I have had it since new.

 

I have never had any issues with it transmission wise, but the other day in a moment of stupidity I took it to Jiffy Lube and was talked into fluid changes in both differentials and the transfer box.

 

Now I have this awful howling noise in 4-Hi. It doesn't do it in 2-Hi. There's a chevy blazer video out there with the same noise. Sounds like the bearings are square!

 

I was assured that the fluids were GM AutoTrack II, and I also have a 2000 Sillverado 1500 Z-71 which had the same thing done to it and its fine.

 

Why would changing the fluid on the Tahoe cause this problem?

Since you said "Jiffy Lube", check and make sure they actually put fluid IN the transfer case , for starters.

 

If indeed it is full, then it's more than likely the wrong fluid no matter what they tell you. Good luck - I hope this works out for you ...

changing the oil does not induce a mechanical failure ,,

 

its a coincedence ,,,but ,,,,,do what ^^^^^JS said right now
