Code P1637???

I looked it up on the website's trouble code browser and it comes up with " Alternator warning lamp control signal “L” terminal problem". Now, here is how it appeared:

I was leaving work today and got on it a little bit going into 2nd gear, but after that I let off the gas and then it appeared. My voltometer dropped down to the middle bar between 9 and 14 (my assumption is 11.5V).

Now tell me if I'm wrong, but this sounds like the alternator just died. I have a cheapy aftermarket 200amp alternator I bought for my electric fans and sound system, to keep up with it. Or, could this possibly have something to do with something other than the alternator, such as the battery? And, could it have hurt my battery?

I have my stock 105amp alternator on the shelf, so if I need to I can switch it out in a jiffy. But, I'd rather have some else's input on this before I go and start replacing parts for no reason.

Thanks

Went and swapped it with my stock 105amp and it works now. Guess it wasn't built very well. But I do have a warranty on it.

Definitely need at least a 200 amp alternator because once I turn my a/c on and the fans kick on the voltage drops to 12.5V and that's without my subs running

I was going through your build topic and saw that and was gonna go back and see what kind it was. I remember it is like 300 amps. Did you have to get a new serpentine?

I got the new belt. It just takes the belt for the 145 amp alt. It is a DC Power Engineering 300 SPX 300 amp

Did you seriously drop that much money on that alternator? I'm not sure if I want to fork out that much money for an alternator

I paid $500 free shipping.

Try highamp.com or Google nations starter and electric. I got mine from them.

Think a dual battery setup would be a smart move as well? I jump a truck at work close to once every two weeks and feel like dual batteries would help with that. And I mean they are all diesels, big 7.3L powerjokes and up, so it takes a lot to get those things to turn over.

Dual battery is an idea for me but I like the big alternator

If I ever install a speaker amp I probably will for sure. How long did it take you to get your alternator in? On the manufacturer's website, it says 4 to 6 weeks to ship, but doesn't say anything on other sites.

I think the black would look sweet, but red would match my shock covers and suspension bushings...
