Back up camera at will

Is it possible to wire the back up camera to come on when you want it without going into reverse ???.....I would think you could hijack the signal from the Reverse Light Switch to a switch on the dash.....would be cool to be able to check your hook ups while towing, or just check how close that idiot is to your bumper at a stop light.....or just flat out cool to use

Using the reverse light circuit like that would also turn the backup lights on. Sitting at the stop lights would have the added benefit of making the car behind think that you just put it into reverse, causing him/her to panic a bit when the light turns green and your backup lights are still on. Possible problem with that is they may just panic too much and do something they need not do. Having reverse lights come on while driving on the highway may earn you a ticket for having white light on the rear of the vehicle at night.

 

One thing I have always wondered, why do people really care how close the car behind is when stopped?

Hooking into reverse lights will not work. The only way I know to do this is to get a Coastal Lockpick unit.

Sorry, I just assumed that everyone has the OGM-1 head unit and backup camera combo. Pretty sure it takes the backup light signal to turn the camera on and show it on the OGM-1 display.
