Obviously this is subject to change as more 14's start hitting the lots or if Ford & Fiat up the ante.

DETROIT -- Chevrolet and GMC dealers wondering when General Motors will fully open the incentives spigot on its outgoing full-sized pickups might be waiting awhile.

Even as the first redesigned 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra hit showrooms, GM is commanding higher prices and dangling smaller incentives for the outgoing trucks, which have been on the market since 2006.

In May, average transaction prices on the pickups were up $1,500 vs. a year ago, to $34,700, while incentives dropped by $300, GM said, citing data from J.D. Power and Associates.

For more than a year, dealers and industry experts have predicted that GM would slash prices to clear 2013 pickups from dealership lots. They've pointed to GM's relatively bloated pickup inventory, which has hovered above a 100-day supply for much of the past two years.

But GM's changeover to a new truck comes just as a rebounding economy, hot housing market and pent-up demand stoke truck sales industrywide. That means GM will be able to hold pricing on the lame-duck models better than it normally would, analysts say.

Through May, pickups accounted for 11.8 percent of total industry sales, up from 10.5 percent a year earlier, according to the Automotive News Data Center. Combined sales of the Silverado and Sierra rose 22 percent, to 270,392.

That has helped GM trim its full-sized pickup inventory to 220,466 units, or a 93-day supply as of May 31. That's down from 245,853 units, or a 139-day supply, as recently as Nov. 30.

The strong pickup market "might allow you to use the price lever a lot less than you've had to" on past-model sell-downs, Bank of America analyst John Murphy told GM executives during a conference call last week.

Still only seeing ones with M plates up here. Only Silverados, no GMCs. I just wonder when Fort Wayne will come on line since that's not even two hours away.

The website means nothing though as the dealer here in Jackson shows a few as in stock on line that aren't on the lot yet. Sales guy I spoke with on the phone (who asked for my phone/email like 4 times ) said they're not in either so it isn't like the trucks are in the showroom or something.

Don't you love that. The Silverado I stopped to look at had the salesman drooling. I told him I was only looking and maybe 3 minutes later he asked if I was trading my truck in

GMC Dealer up here has one, I spoke with the asst sales manager on Friday (know him) and he said, come on down and take it for ride.....but I have no intention of buying one. Not a fan of AFM engines.

I'll either buy the Range AFM disable or get it tuned unless the responsiveness is acceptable.

If I ever bought one the Range would be my first mod purchase.

And what about those rumored and supposedly more restrictive PCMs coming with those new trucks?

That Silverado I saw the other week at the dealer still hasn't sold. It's still parked out front by the road. Geee maybe they want to much...

The volume guys move them on out like anything else, doesn't matter new old or different. The margin guys keep something new on the lot to attract people & sell them a 13. Local 2013 GMC inventory is dropping a bit, but the two 14's they have displayed out front have not even been moved in over a week.

There are both 2014 Chevy & 2014 GMC on the lots here in little ole Victoria, Texas.. but no NHT Max Towing Package yet just 5.3L so far..

I am waiting for the pricing on the 2014 with the 6.2L & NHT package & will order one for delivery before the end of the year.. gotta take advantage of the 179 Depreciation allowance this year. I hope that GMC does the loyalty thing and maybe a couple of rebates, but I am buying regardless as my local dealer will sell at invoice to me..

BTW, i will be selling my 2007 GMC Sierra SLE Crew Cab, 4WD, Z71, VortecMax truck that will have around 90000 miles on it.. I really hate to get rid of this truck as it has been the best pickup I have ever owned.. I will be putting it in the classified soon.. any early interest, email me [email protected] in excellent condition with a couple of good add on's like an ARE Shell that has a walk in glass door & opens like a Tahoe plus EBC brakes...
