Vacuum Leak

If a vehicle has a vacuum leak, will the CEL always come on to alert you or could you have a leak without a CEL showing up? I could take it to the dealer but if it's something I can check myself beforehand I'd rather do that first.

Usually vaccuum leaks a fairly simple to find either by smoke,spray, or sound. And I second that

I thought my Camaro might have one which is why it was lunging when you first crank it up and put it into reverse but it was a tune issue. All is resolved now. Thanks guys.
