Also. I found out my truck has 308 gears with a tow package oil and trans cooler with the 6 speed. This seems like a low gear for towing....am I wrong?

Welcome to the club. 3.08 does seem low for a tow package equipped truck. I would have thought at least 3.42 or 3.73

And 3.08 on the six speed, with the tow package? Are you looking at the window sticker? If you are, look at the options and then look under mechanical, it should have at least 3.42's, but go 3.73's

yes that's what I thought. it says 3.08 rear axle ratio and also the power pack plus package vortec 5.3 6 speed auto trans HD cooling locking rear diff HD trailering HD trailering equipment external engine oil cooler ext trans oil cooler and weight dist hitch platform. thanks for the welcomes!

Those oil coolers leak, heard its a pretty common problem. I know my dad's leaked and had it replaced. Dealership said its a pretty common problem, not sure how much of that is the truth though.
