Keeping hunting dogs cool in our trucks

My 1.5 year old Vizlsa goes almost everywhere I go, even when we're not chasing upland birds.

My concern is making sure he keeps cool (or warm) while he's hanging out in the truck and I am away from the vehicle. I have no problem with leaving the vehicle and AC running for him, but I've heard stories of people who did the same thing only to have their AC's suddenly break and their precious partners die.

I am trying to find some way I can monitor the cabin temp of my truck remotely. I know the technology is out there but I am having trouble getting it all together. I have a cellular connected iPad that I'd like to use somehow as a transmitter in the truck and then use my iphone to keep watch of the temp from anywhere (anywhere that has reception of course)

Does anyone have any idea if this is possible, or know of something similar I can use?

I have never had a AC just die on me. And I have only had one start to go bad, and it gave me enough of a warning as I could hear the bearings start to go, that I replaced it. I knew the guys in Iraq would keep the SUVs running all day so the dogs could have a cool place to sit after they sniffed a vehicle.

Some aftermarket remote start systems have two way transmitters that will display temperature on the key fob
