Reduced Power/Fuel Cap?

Recommended Posts

Posted

Anyone had their truck mid-trip running fine, and its like the emergency brake is applied by itself - shows "reduced power mode" or something on the screen, the truck swerve (traction?) emblem comes on along with one on the speedo engine/trans?

The first time it happened, looked in the manual said something about gas cap and turning until it clicks. So I did, turned it off, re-cranked, ran fine.

Tonight same thing, I get out try to turn gas cap until it "clicks" - I can not for the life of me turn it hard enough to get it to click and most of the time it is all I can do to turn it until I get a click - I am not slightly built nor do I lack in hand/arm strength.

This is really annoying and appears the gas cap may be defective - which sounds so stupid, I would think it is impossible. But, I am a novice at new GM products, thought maybe someone could give me a pointer on what may be going on?

I really hope this is not the beginning of an every 6 week trip to the dealer for something else not working right - but that damn reduced power crap could get someone killed while driving - you can barely turn across lanes to turn in safely - it is a dangerous deal and frankly stupid, for what appears to be the problem at this point.

The reduced power won't be caused by a gas cap. The reduced power should only come up for things like electronic throttle malfunctions and maybe if the engine gets too hot.

Engine Temp was normal, had only been running about 6 or 7 minutes, at the time, as well. It did not want to shift, possibly unrelated, noticed earlier in the day that a couple of shifts were unusual feeling, but nothing like this.

CCTiger,

Don't pay any attention to Won... you don't have a "long road in front of you" he just hates GM.

Just take it to the dealer -I'm sure they will get it sorted out fast.

Go read through his past post... show me one where he has actually said anything positive towards GM.

You may find one if you dig deep.. but it will be hard.
