2005 GMC sierra 4wd troubles

My 2005 GMC sierra truck indicator came on saying service 4wd. When I try to change from 2wd to either 4wd hi or low it doesn't the light stays on 4wd hi even if the other buttons are pushed. If I start to drive it only kickes in 4wd hi if I accelerate while turning the wheel, if I coast while turning it doesn't it stays I'm 2wd but the light still shows its in 4wd hi. Can anyone please help me out!
