Hid kits? DDM tuning, ebay etc?

So decided to finally get a set, the wife has a pair of ddm in her jeep. Told the 5000 spectrum is the brightest, since I have two different bulbs for hi/low need two kits which sucks. Anybody recommend any ebay sellers for hid kits, ddm tuning will be about 105.00 for two kits plus shipping otherwise. Was looking at getting the 55w over the 35w like my wife has. I have aftermarket headlights but same size as the oem ones, anyone have issues with the 55w melting the plastic on the headlights?

ps. only switching to hids now because my ccfls for high and low stopped working so its like oem lighting now

I have 55W DDM slims in my Impala. I have had them for probably 3-4 years with no problems, and for 2 of those they were running constantly (DRL). No melting issues, just replaced the bulbs once. I also have 35W DDM slims in my foglight enclosures in the Silverado and have had no problems with those either.

I tried a set of bulbs and ballasts from ebay once. Ended up returning them about 4 times cause they never could send me a fully working set. I vowed after I got my money back to only go DDM from then on.

If you go with the 55W setup, I would install a "inline fuse" just to be on the safe side.

I have read on other boards about lenses "melting, discolored" with the 55W setup.

DDM is what ill go with for the lifetime warranty. I just have to decide then the 35w or 55w. DDM said itll be fine as long as theres room to disappate the heat. SInce the headlight assembly is good size it shouldnt be a problem but on the other hand to take a chance then melt, then all new headlights. Might be safer just stick with the 35w?

FWIW, I've got several sets of HID's and the only pair of 55w's ive got were the first. The rest have been 35w just to play it safe. I cant tell a difference between the wattages.

I also have the 35W ones without issues now that I have installed the relay kit. Before the relay kit was added they would occassionally not light or flicker. As they are also my DRLs they are on constantly with no discolouration in the lenses or any other issues. For the extra $10 I think the relay is a must for these trucks or your ballasts will die prematurely unless you pull the DRL fuse.

BTW one of my ballasts is now going on ten years old as it was orginally in my '01 Astro. Don't even know if Eurolites (the brand) is still available.

Bought a set from "theglowdoctor" on ebay about a year ago 35w slim and no issue. I bought a relay kit but don't remember who the seller was.

What should be kept in mind is the word "wattage" translates to "heat", the higher the wattage, the more heat is generated.

This brings to mind another POSSIBLE problem, "is my stock wiring able to handle the increased heat?". The stock bulbs ARE rated @ 55 watts, however the HID ballasts play with that number.

I personally would stick to the 35W system.

Going to stick with the 35w to play it safe. Plenty bright on my wifes car. Ddm comes with relay included. Thank you everyone.

    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
    • Correct.  2019-2021 model years are serviced by a different p/n.  19420611.  Recall 2021s use 19420611.   The recall engines 2022-2024 model years are serviced with 12740076.     The difference between 19420611 and 12740076 is GM changed injector size for 2022.  The injectors are smaller on 12740076 with smaller injector bores in the cylinder heads to match the smaller injectors.  So you can't install a 19420611 in a 2022-2024, and you can't install a 12740076 in a 2019-2021.     Both engines are the replacement engine p/ns that are in the L87 recall.  So both of these are the updated engines.     Here's a version of the L87 recall with the p/ns for all the parts needed.    RCRIT-25V274-7075.pdf   Note it shows 19420611 and 12740076 with an asterisk to a footnote "Use the VIN and the GM Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) to determine which part to order if two or more part numbers are listed for the same part, as it may vary by vehicle options."
    • Looking for advice from this group. Took my flawless 2020 6.2 TB to an unnamed shop for routine rear brakes and oil change. Tech forgot to put oil back in after the full service and needles to say, destroyed my engine.  It’s all on their shop video so they are responsible.   I had my Chevy dealer do the analysis and they confirmed its compromised and said engine replacement. The manager said they only get GM reman engines from GM with full 3 yr warranty and the one they would put in is not same as what’s they are swapping out on 21-25 for recall.    I am looking for advice why that would be a different engine because obviously I had the good 6.2 year and replacing it has my concerns with that recall for 21-15   Also what’s the pros and cons of accepting the engine swap vs telling the shop that bricked the truck to pay up so I buy a new truck. I’m concerned about stigma resale eventually if I just decide to get rid of it after the swap or other issues showing up after the swap out.
    • Just looked up my records.  I've never gone over 5000 miles between oil changes.  At 46K miles, I have 10 oil changes.  I hope that will help.  I also installed the disabler last year.  I've still had a few times when it didn't seem to engage (which I can tell because the start stop feature kicks in), but for the most part, I think it's working.  For some reason, GM did not include the number of cylinders running in the information screen like I had on other models.  In my Cadillac, it shows me when it's running on 4 cylinders on the fuel milage screen.  I can't find that on my '21 Denali.
