ECM Installation 2004 Silverado

Tried searching the forum and couldn't find any how to's. It was determined that my truck needs a new ECM because the current one is not running specific tests to pass the state's emissions inspection tests. I have a refurbished ECM coming that will be programmed to my VIN#. Will I be able to just swap them out and start my truck? or does the truck need to go through a relearning process? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Your truck should start and run. You may need to do a security re-learn, you can do this yourself, and you should get a crank re-learn performed

It takes a bit and is kind of a pain.

Its simple as dirt to do. Disconnect your battery. Pop the plastic cover off below the battery tray. Its one 7 mm head bolts that hold each respective connector into the computer ( so two total) unlike the video. There is rubber seals on the connectors you need to transfer if they stick to the computer. Release the locks tabs holding the computer in the tray. Install is reverse of removal. Its honestly a 10 minute job.

Provided you have a tune loaded to the new PCM after the security relearn it will start.

Tight area and time consuming. I don't like doing it

Where do you get that from? There is more than enough room to work. As shown in the video, plenty of room. Takes 10 minutes at most for the first timer.

I also had to pin my fan harness. I took my plugs off a couple times.

Undo the plastic connectors holding the harness and it will pretty well sit on the core support with the wiring still attached. I have only done this honestly dozens of times lol.

My mechanic doesn't have the tools to do the crank relearn so I will have to go to the dealer for this. Will it take them long? Just wondering because they charge $100 an hour and would like to know what I'm looking at cost wise.

Crank relearn takes me about 2 minutes lol. Dealer will be half hour minimum
