2014 Silverado Crew Cab z71 5.3

816 miles

just had an odd thing happen when I was on my way home from work my truck downshifted after accelerating coming on the onramp to interstate and it never shifted to the next gear. The motor was taching high 5-5.5k and when I let off the gas and then eased back into a couple times The truck stayed in the lower gear so I had to slow down to about 20 and then manually do it with the M and the Towing buttons.

There was a slight burnt smell for a little bit shortly after, but that could be from numerous things.

Now as if I wasn't worried enough about the rough shifting it does, this causes more reason for concern for me.

Any ideas?

Too new for me but take it to the dealership. No need to give you a diagnosis if it does it always. Hopefully it continues so it can be duplicated.

Thanks man. Planned on doing that, just wanted to see if anyone knew what the cause could be.

Same thing happened to my 14 Silverado 5.3. 1500 miles. Entering freeway stuck in what appeared to be 3rd gear. Finally released after shifting to M and back to D. When I stopped about 5 miles later there was a noticeable smell of hot oil. Trans temp said 210 which isn't unreasonable. Dealer found no codes or issues and advised to keep driving and return if it happened again.?

i haven't had it happen since this time, but I do know that it happens on occasion when slowing down to turn, but it's supposed to down shift and it's harder to realize it. Seeing how we were getting on it when it was obvious to realize, it may be happening more than we think but we are just overlooking it .

On the G8 forum many people experienced a "flare" in between 2-3 shift which sounds like what you're describing, there was eventually a TSB issued that called for recalibration of the TCM and replacing seal rings in the transmission & draining fluid, apparently some of the seal rings were installed backwards causing this.

I mention it because it is essentially the same tranny.
