Using Auto 4WD during the Shuttle debris search

Well, for the past week, several of us have been assisting as best as we could for the search of shuttle debris just north east of my location.  My '03 Silverado with Firestone Wilderness AT tires was sorta doubtful (in my opinion) for helping ferry supplies because I was asked if I would try transporting across some large rain-soaked pastures.  Some of these involved over a mile of traveling across deep muddy areas and high grass.

So, off I go with bed-load full of material and supply.  My heart sorta skipped as immediately, I felt the tires sink in the ground.  But, with just the AUTO 4WD button, the truck trekked through the muck and it didn't even spin..., much.  I do admit of pushing the 2 HI button a couple of times just to see the difference.  DON'T do that in this grassy mud.  SCARY! The AUTO 4WD button rescued the truck every time.

I spent most of Friday and half of today doing this duty.  Not once did the Silverado bog down.  I was very amazed not only in the truck, but in the Firestone tires.  I just didn't think they would handle the muddy pastures.  I mean, we are talking about some very long distance  driving in this mess.

I am very pleased with this truck.

any pictures?

Our group wasn't allowed to take photos once getting into the actual search grid.

Also, it appears the server that has my signature photo isn't broadcasting today.  Ah well...  The truck is just straight factory anyway, but wow..., I sure enjoy it.

:D Pretty cool that you could use your truck to help the country during a major tragedy.  Nice to see fellow Chevy owners volunteering!

Doing us proud.

Yep, that's cool that your volunteering.    :D

I wish I could.

I really wish this board would display regional locations of posters, like vBulletin does.  grrrrr

Anyway, I'm sure if y'all lived close enough, you'd be involved.

If I were closer, I definately would be.  I'm in SC.

What do you mean about displaying regional location?

Showing where the poster is from in there message?

That may be possible, but I'm not sure.  We'd have to check with the admin of the site.

Some boards allow the members to note where they are from (city/state) and this is listed in their post.

Yes, usually near the avatar area, left of the message window.
