just dropped our 2012 6.0 off to the dealer for a noise from the engine, they called us back and said the cam is flat spotted we got the truck used and this is the secont time its happened. anyone ever heard of this issue?

Yep. My 09 lost a lobe or two on its 6 liter when the lifters fell apart. Should get a new complete long block with all the metal that went through the bearings. Your bottom end is now garbage.

Happened more than once to the same engine? VERY unusual. What repairs were done to it the first time it happened? Did the same dealer fix it the first time that has diagnosed it now? Know anything about the trucks history?

I had a 2006 6.0L at work that lost a lifter and it destroyed the camshaft. Suspect the truck was run low on oil, but couldn't be 100% sure. Replaced the engine with a GM Reman., problem solved.

I've got a new body 07 that had 116k on it when I got it. Within a month it dropped a cylinder. Put a "new" reman in it and it sounded like a diesel. Replaced it (under the warranty) didn't go 50 miles dropped a cylinder again! I'm so frustrated!!

The truck pictured in the OP is a 1500, that 6 liter is different than the HD's (GM made at least three different engines with different HP and torque ratings in '12). 1500's had the Max with more HP than the 2500's had, 2500 WT had a lower HP/Torque engine, and the regular 2500 HD's had yet another engine. I wonder if the issues are different across the lines?

No 6 liters in half tons in 2012... The LS7 lifters are just as much junk as the AFM ones are. My 09 was a 2500HD with an LY6. It lost one that ate a lobe... and the others looked about as bad.

No hybrid in 2012? All the 900 series hybrids had 6.0's

And to answer the question about lifters LS7 lifters will fail like the others. People use them because they are cheap. Go with a good set of aftermarket lifters from comp or Brian Tooley Racing

The OP was complaining about AFM in some other posts..... so either his truck is a hybrid..... or it's a 5.3 lol. I was going to add that in my post just in case someone has to run in as they always do... but didn't honestly care enough lol. Either way... any LS with LS7 lifters in it... is as much of a ticking bomb as the AFM ones are. Let's say his was for sure AFM... okay cool. Well my old heap and the myriad of other LS7 failure engines are not.

eating lobes is awful. No lube in the valley. Hopefully there is still powertrain warranty because it is a GM issue if it isnt modded
