getting a Flowmaster 40

$100 installed.... I told the guy at the shop he better check that price as the best I could find online was around $80 he told me his cost was $80 and $20 for his time.... He said he appreciates when people just come in, give him a chance and cuts them a deal rather than when people buy cheap exhaust parts online and bring them to him for the install... I asked what he charges for that and he said $75 (sounded high to me but like he said people think they are saving so much online, they don't complain about the install and half the time they order the wrong stuff and he's got to "make it work".... what a nice surprise... Goes on Tuesday... never kept the stock pipe before, always had custom bent duals done but It's stainless, and has a GM polished tip on it, seems like a waste to trash it for cheap pipe that I'll have to replace ever 2-3 years (from experience around here, at least it's cheap to have done)

 

on the 40 itself, Muffler opinions are like well you know, everyone has one..... I like this muffler other guys like other ones. I'll leave it at that as long as you find the sound you're looking for it's all good

Not a fan of flowmaster, but that's a good price. Did you get a stainless 40 muffler? I got a 40 that wasn't stainless and in 1 year and a half it rusted so quickly it actually fell off while I was driving

yup I got stainless (it's a must up here with the salt).... If I was buying a more expensive muffler and the shops price was out of line I would pay 75 80 bucks to have it done but for a flowmaster, which I see as a one step above the standard throw away muffler and cheap enough that if I get sick of it I won't lose any sleep over swapping it out, it's fine.... I just found it funny that he'll damn near work for free if you buy a muffler from him at cost lol.... he said the worst is the "internet" kids bringing mufflers to him they bought online or at a parts store at the totally wrong size or offset then they try to school him about mandrel bent piping from their vast "internet forum" knowledge.. lol (he just bends with an old school bender) He says he tells them he knows it flows better, he would never make back the cost of the equpment to do it twice a year for the people who truly care, and to go find someone else to mandrel bend the pipes and adapt the muffler to fit and they shut up

I will say the guy is straight up enough that he said when people want an "exhaust in a box" he tells them to order it online and have it shipped to his shop (cheaper shipping) and charges an hourly rate... he says for some reason his supplier is high on the full systems Seems like an honest guy
