Lol wtf just like a smart phone? No not at all. Phone makers and cell providers quit supporting their phones whenever the hell they want. I can support my own phone for however long the skills and patience I posses allow me to. Or I i rely on others to keep updating and putting out custom roms for it. None of those options are available with GM's system.

Tapped out on my beastly OPPO Find 7a

And if a company decided to drop support for a model of smartphone, you'd be pissed... But at the most, that's a $400-500 hit and a 2-year contact.

But add a couple of orders of magnitude ($40-50K) and a 5-6 year note to that equation... PISSED is an extreme understatement!!!

GM should start offering ANAL lube as standard equipment on any truck over 40,000 dollars. I only wish my butthole had an extended warranty. I just had my halo rings fixed along with other problems with the my link system, only to receive my truck back with broken bezel around the 8 in screen. Then they get irritated when I point this out. Been weeks still not resolved. Maybe broken plastic is part of their "OPERATING AS DESIGNED" bs!

OH YEAH. a little off topic ,but. The 2014 Impala rental I was given had to be driven around for a week with the same clicking seat problem that many of us that own Silverados are dealing with. The thing only had 280 miles on it. SAD. It seems that every time an issue comes up the dealer blames GM , and GM blames the dealer. Im getting really tired of them playing this

"WHOs ON FIRST" skit.

Did the dealer build it? I think not.

If mylink is open source what would it take to create custom roms so to say?

After reading the custom hmi thread from gtpprix, I have been wondering the same thing.

Sent an email to the big wigs about future updates for the 2014s, this response is sad and pathetic that they will not honor future updates for the my link system in our trucks:

First, thank you for purchasing a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pickup. Mrs. Barra, myself and the rest of the GM team are extremely proud of our new trucks and hope that same feeling is shared by you, our customer. As you mentioned in your note, the pickup came with the Chevrolet MyLink color radio. Like every company, we're moving fast to keep up with the pace of digital electronics and for each model year, make the newest and greatest features available.

The MyLink radio in future models may look the same as the one in your Silverado, but have additional features. It is the same thing that happens when you buy a new smart phone -- the new phone likely has additional memory or an updated processor that enable it to run aps that your old phone can't. So while the current generation of MyLink radios have many great features, we don't currently have the ability to provide updates to them.

Thanks again for being a Chevrolet customer, and thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Makes me wonder sometimes why I bought the gmc. The touchscreen in its current state is useless in my opinion as it has no useful features. In have no use for onstar and when the warranty is up, I will disable it.

That being said I dont see the need for 4g for the truck when I can tether my phone with unlimited data. I just wished they gave us an option to use the screen for something more than listing my radio stations.

Even with the myford touch you could still do more. No offense we shouldn't have to go thru GTPprix to get added software features that should have come on the unit. So if he can add them why can't GM.

Again if you want the email addresses to voice your displeasure PM me.

I spent 47,000 on my ltz two weeks ago and I think it was my last goverment motors vehicle I buy. They are way behind ford and dodge and they go we have better mpg ya until a few weeks when the fords 15s hit the road. Over a granddad a touch screen radio that can't do crap

I like the truck overall. Beautiful truck an all. But I wish the touch screen was more modern. I looked at the dodge, the ford didnt interest me much. But I really wish they spent the time and fixed a few things like the touch screen and the damn sun glass holder.
