so are they going to make you use this new built in wifi in order to download apps? Is it gonna be part of the onstar subscription or an entirely separate subscription? Either way they need to make it so you can use your phone to connect as a hotspot for downloading these apps in the vehicles. I wont be paying for an additional service just for this. Plus I think it is a mistake for them to switch from Verizon to at&t. at&t has admitted before that they are 2-3 years behind verizon on there infrastructure as far as lte is concerned.

Nah you can run 100 ft of cat 6 from your router and plug in to the RJ-45 jack under the dash.

In all reality it will probably be like when onstar came out with the built in the phone. You would had to buy "minutes"

Based on how all these articles read it doesn't appear to be compatible with the 2014s.

What makes you think this? The current my link system is empty.. they show arrows to swipe to another screen yet not enough icons to have a second page. If we can't add apps to our systems I'm done.. I'll be absolutely pissed.. these systems suck only reason I'm ok is because I knew it was a work in progress

The app store (sorry, AppShop) will initially be available only on cars fitted with GMs OnStar 4G LTE system. These include the model year 2015 versions of the Chevrolet Corvette, Equinox, Impala, Malibu, Volt, Silverado and Silverado HD.

Previous versions of the MyLink touchscreen entertainment and nav system have had a number of apps pre-installed, with any future additions and updates reliant on trips to a service centre. The new system allows drivers to download approved apps straight into the vehicles over the air.

That is so lame. Why would GM restrict you to going in for service to download a simple app? The connectivity exists to utilize your mobile phone connection.

I was just chatting with a Infotainment rep on the Chevy site and she said that it is being looked at for models that are already in production.

You would think that they would allow you to update your mylink system for the app shop. I had a 2011 explorer with myford touch and every myford touch whether it was a 2011 or 2014 got the update to system, and they all pretty much had the same function.

I know reps usally do not have the best info.

I would also think that they would allow you to keep updating the system. At least while the link is still under the factory warrantee.

My wifes Lincoln is the same way, while under warranty the updates are free. After warranty they are still there but you have to pay the labor for the update.

Hmmmm.... angry birds or candy crush would be fun :)

Better yet.... a frogger game that links to your driving. You swerve to try to hit a frog on the screen. I am sure it is safe.
