Muffler replace only

Hey, new here, but I've been on some other boards, but I'm tired of just seeing posts about how much they hate the looks of the "new" Silverado's!  This place seems to have actual info.  I just recently got a 97 Chevy 4x4, now I have to modify it! (as my wife says :D )  I have a brand new Borla Stainless Muffler that I was going to put on my Yota until the engine blew.  I want to put this on my Chevy now.  The muffler is a 2.5" single in/outlet, the stock muffler is a dual in/single out.  Will this muffler still work?  Will I have to get some sort of Y pipe?  After this, I'll replace the tip.  Thanks, I'll get some pics posted soon, I just put a 2" lift on it with 15x10 AR Atlas rims with 33x12.50 ProComp MT's.  Chris

I imagine that an exhaust shop can fab a "Y" pipe for you so that you could use that muffler.

The other thing to do would be to take that muffler back to where you bought it, and exchange it for a dual in/ single out muffler.  Even if the charge you a 10% restocking fee, it'll still be cheaper than having an exhaust shop make you a custom "Y" pipe.

Welcome to the Forum and enjoy yourself here  :D

Thanks for the advice, but I bought this muffler over a year ago, and I bought it directly from Borla from their internet site.  That would be a pain to return, if they would take it back after so long.  I have access to a welder, and it wouldn't be hard to fab.  I already have  2.25 and 2.5" Stainless tubes.  I just wanted to make sure that I would not be harming anything.  I don't think making it a single in would restrict anything since it goes to a 2.5" single out.  Instead of the joining of the 2 pipes within the muffler, it would be just before they enter the muffler.  This muffler is also a lot less restrictive.  Am I correct in my thinking?  Thanks, Chris

I'm guessing you have a standard "Turbo" muffler from Borla.  I don't believe they are application specific, and are good up to 300HP engines, so it should work fine.

As long as your stock tailpipe is 2 1/2" you should be OK.  I really wouldn't want to restrict your air flow or you would lose all the benefits of the new freer flowing muffler.

Just try to fab up a "y" pipe that would allow both banks of the engine to "breath" the same, and will allow for smooth airflow.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice.  If it'll ever get above freezing around here I might get something done.  1.5" of nothing but ice stops everything!  Thanks again, Chris
