Got tired of the oil leak and now a second set of head gaskets have gone to 5H!T (second set since november) so instead of pulling the motor to get to my rear main seal and oil pan gasket I bought a 5.7 vortec to swap

 

what all should I need other than a wiring harness differently

You need a full wire harness and pcm and obd 2 port

but the PCM what's that I'm not to good with electronic terms

You need the engine worong harness, probably a new trans and the harness for that. The Vortec are OBD2 engines and yours is not.

So I need to find a trans to go with it I can't just swap the motor

Some companies may make kits, but after 96 all the wiring changed. If you already have the motor look at these

I would personally run a port system if you bought the engine already. One of these kits will make the install a lot easier for you and come with what you need

Yeah, but with that extra $$$ he can just buy a newer truck.

It's bought and I'm pulling it with my dad my friend and possibly his dad but if I need to get a trans I'm finding a good deal on a 4l80e somewhere

Extra money but will run decent. read up on some swaps and see what all was done.

I'm just worried on whether or not my motor will make it to the swap because it's near dead
