2012 Sierra has water leak in front passenger floorboard. Anyone else?

My 2012 crew cab leaks water after a heavy rain. It is limited to the passenger floor board and leaks onto the floor mat from the dash. It is not a heater core problem. The evaporator box is not clogged. There is a slight searing sound for just a second or two during initial startup after a heavy rain.

I took it to the dealer today and they verified the evap box is not clogged. They think it could be the windshield. I am skeptical. What would cause the searing sound? Could it be leaking in through the cowl under the wipers?

Oh yeah,I don't have a sunroof. I may just get rid of it. It has 13k miles and now the seats, carpet and dash need to be torn out to find the leak. I know it will never be perfect again. I might just cut my losses and trade it early on a new 2014.

Not sure about the searing sound but it sounds like the windshield or under the cowl screen where the air comes into the cab, if it's coming in there it would run down into the fan motor and that may be the searing sound but not sure. You can check for yourself by running water on the cowl screen first and checking to see if it leaks and if not slowly move up from there and that will kind of give you an idea of where it's coming from and help you decide if you want to trade or keep. Have you had a windshield installed since you had it?

Nope. It is as it left the factory with original windshield. I would think the cowl would be a more predictable problem rather than the windshield seal.

Hi cbsaf,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having this concern with water leaking in your truck. Have you mentioned this to your dealership? We'd be happy to look further into this and document your concerns. If any additional assistance is needed please send us a PM here on this site!

Thank you,

Im pretty sure it will be the windsheild, it was not sealed properly. The first car I bought had a cracked windsheild, got it fixed but always had water on my floor after a rain. Brought it back to speedy and he figured out that it was a gap in the sealent.

Mine was just leaking on the driver's side. Floorboard was soaked and it now smells really good! My dealer is going to shampoo the carpets today. They found my leaks in the driver's door and the onstar antenna was leaking too. My door panel had been pulled off 2xs prior by my dealership for repair work, now 3xs

Also check the firewall where pipes are. I had leaks in that area, put caulking around all the pipes, fixed me leaks!

Well, I took it to a Cadillac dealer because we don't have a GMC dealer close anymore and the Chevy dealer said they didn't do the warranty work on a GMC. They did some tests and they could not pinpoint the problem. It was coming in from high on the firewall. The next step was to pull the seats, carpet and the dash and spray it so nothing would get soaked. They were planning on a long term loaner while they did all of this.

I just punted. I didn't want to deal with a new truck with 15K miles having the whole inside torn out and going without for a week. I just felt it would never be the same afterwards. I asked Chevy how much they would give me for it and their offer was very high. I traded it on a new 2014 Silverado. So, my leak is fixed.

Here it is. Just a simple LT Z71. It has the all-star package so it has the bigger screen and a couple other options not standard on the LT. All I plan to do is Line-X the bed and maybe buy an over-the-strut leveling kit and some 285 tires. I got out today and took the horrible pin stripes off and washed the film off that they always wipe onto the new trucks to make them shine at delivery.
