How to remove headrests?

I have a 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 and bought some seat covers and noticed the headrests don't

come completely out when I pull them up. Is there a secret to removing them completely or

is the dealer the only one who can do it? I want to remove them so I can install the seat covers

to the back of the seat.

Well, if they're like my '08, you have the adjustment latch on the passenger side post and the removal hole on the drivers side post. It's a three-handed job. You have to push in the adjustment latch, push something that's thin, rigid metal into the removal hole (highlighted in the pic), AND lift up on the headrest. I use a small hex key - a paper clip is too flimsy.

OK thanks. I did this and got the headrests off and my seat covers on. I never noticed the small hole before but was easy to

get the headrests off once I learned the trick. Now I can get on with a few other things I plan for my new truck.
