Broken Battery Terminal Bolt

Recommended Posts

I've broken the bolt that holds the clamp to the battery terminal. It came cross threaded from the factory and when I put it back on, it bit on the cross thread and sheared itself in half. Unfortunately GM uses some proprietary bolt I can't find anywhere. GM parts tells me I have to buy some entire $70 wire assembly (part # 23119639) so I can get the $0.48 part.

Part of the reason I left German cars is I was sick of the proprietary this and proprietary that. Come to GM world with 800 miles on my Sierra and get this. Beyond ticked. GMC service won't touch it since I did it..... I guess next time I have trouble loosening a bolt on the car I should schedule an appointment with service.

Does anyone know where I can find a replacement part? I've attached photos below of the broken bolt and where it goes (underneath the clamp so the nut is on top).

Worst case I'll figure something out at Home Depot and jimmy rig the month old truck....

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Try GM # 19116852 for just the bolt kit. (w/ N&FW)

If not, you should be able to get the whole harness for $40 (not $70)

That's a pisser.

I'd stop by the service department and ask the service manager for help. I think service departments get small parts not available separately.

Lefty, big big big help here. Dealer ended up having the part in stock and they were please to learn it as well.

Really can't thank you enough.

No problem. i figured it would be the same style T-bolt that the previous trucks have used, so I was able to find the part number on a schematic for an older truck.

I would have done the same thing that ChrisNJ suggested.

I am an aircraft electrician in the Army and would not deal with something so petty. I would replace the clamp and run a regular bolt through it or something.

Matter of fact I may just replace the clamp before I have a problem on my own truck now that I see how retarded that is.

I agree with copterfixer ^^ either replace the clamp and bolt all together or you could do what I did, I just replaced the bolt on mine because it got striped but the other piece that pulls the clamp together was fine. If you can remove the bolt that is stuck in there I would try that
