I did find the installation guides but couldnt open the file. Found one for 99-06 and it said it was thr door ajar wire and what colors they were. So is the wire on the 14s the same function and what color were they if anyone remembers or can look at their intructions

You have to tap into every door all the way around. Its kind of a pita. They did release the new amp steps which use a single plug for the OBD2 port. My install guys have it down to about 20 minutes on wiring and about an hr and a half to finish the job. but they do 3 to 4 sets a week.

Im trying to see what they use for me to add some puddle lights that are on each door and if the wiring is in the door itd be easy

It is always the top left or top right light grey wire. Top right on Passenger and top right on driver. The top back-most (towards the back of truck), if that make sense. Hope that helps.

Picture is on passenger side:

Now does that wore give power? I thought I read somewhere that it was actually a "ground" wire they use

Hmmm. That makes sense. The power would come from the connection to the positive terminal of the battery to the step motor. That wire just sends a signal when the door is open. I guess that would act as a ground to complete the circuit. Too much work to take off my door panel and fluke it though. I guess if you take your door panel off, just find a common ground, metal, and fluke it door open and shut. I would think if you wired to one of the hot wires in that bundle, assuming there's a 12v hot, and to that on there to act as the ground, it would operate in the same manner you're going for.

Makes sense. Ill give it a shot when I get time

If you do, take pics/notes of which wires. Hard to find pictures. I barely took one while I was in there.

Ill try to remember. Im no electrician, but will hooking up the black wire from my leds to the "ground wire" and red to a constant wire (if theres one there) work? Id think that if I do that, the lights would be on all the time since the power wire is connected to constant hot

There would still have to be a return path for them to work. Yes, the 12V would be up to the lights, but it needs a common return path to complete the circuit. Somewhere for the electricity to go. Kind of like your faucet. water up to the sink valve, but no flow til you open the valve and give it some place to go. The key will be to find a wire (one pictured I believe), that will interrupt the circuit when the door is closed and kill the power path.

Gotchya. So that's what happens when you wire a ground wire to a bolt, say for footwell lights?

Same concept. Always a place to go, and when truck is on, or unlocked, power would go to the light from whatever circuit/wire you tapped into.
