Cargo Tie Down Straps

I've done a few searches and not much popped up on this subject.

 

I've had some "cheap" ratchet straps in the past that were just junk. Ratchets break or bend, webbing gets caught up in ratchet, end up pitching them.

 

What are you guys using for tie down straps? No heavy loads, just everyday stuff; furniture, boxes, Costco runs, etc.

I've been thinking about this Mac Tie Downs kit is what I want, but $70 seems a bit steep...

The Line-X guy told me the upper movable tie downs have a 250# limit. He also said that that's in the four corner spots above the permanent hooks. The center spots on the side rails, and the three on the front rail were less, according to him. Said GM would only warranty if in the four corners. I haven't been able to verify any of this, so he may full of bologna? So you might not want to go ratcheting too hard on those hooks, especially in the center sides or front rail positions? Most any ratchet strap is capable of exceeding 250# without a load.

 

I use a light duty cargo net in the four corner permanent hooks in the lower part of the bed. Doubt I'll use the upper tie downs, but keep them in my Gear Box, just in case. I also use the cinch style straps as well.

 

If I ever need to haul some 8+ foot lumber, I might need to break out the ratchet straps.

I keep a roll of Gorilla tape (high-strength duct tape) in the truck for emergencies also. I've used it as tie down straps before.

Hell, slapped on a tire, it'll even hold air long enough to get me home! BTDT.

Yeah those look pretty good... probably better ratchets aren't going to break or bend. Usually get what you pay for.

Yeah, I'm only planning to use the permanent tie downs on the lower part of the bed. Good to know though.

 

The cargo net is a good idea. I may do some looking around and pick one up!

I have a bungee cargo net. It's nice, but it's a rat's nest to untangle and use.

Very heavy duty ratchets and comfortable handles. I got them on sale for around 12 bucks. I have used them with an atv on a trailer, furniture moving, over sharp edges of paver stones a and even pulled some smaller trees out of the yard. (no tow strap yet) No signs of fraying, tearing or unraveling. plenty long enough for any bed uses.

Ancra tiedowns are the best Ive run across. Ancra makes cargo handling systems for aircraft.

Orange cheap-o straps from home depot have been working for me.
