How long did you wait to accelerate full throttle after new?

Right off of the dealer lot on the PDI test drive to make sure it was good to go and then on the way home.

 

I drive all of my vehicles from day 1 like I plan on driving them, if you think that motor has not seen redline before you got the vehicle you are mistaken. Sees redline at least once at the engine plant and once during final assembly.

well here's my story, with my 2006 2500hd I put a diablo tune and exhaust with CAI the first week. then I proceeded to put 21000 miles on it in just under 4 months changing the oil ever 3000 with mobil 1 full synthetic. needless to say I ran the balls off it the whole time. now 8 years later im sitting at 305000 miles and the engine has never used a drop of oil ever and will still peg the oil pressure at 80psi if you rev it up . ive only ever used mobil full synthetic. this engine has never gave not one problem at all ever.i wonder if it will ever die.

 

now my wifes suburban was bought new in 04 and has 160000 miles also using mobil full synthetic. hers uses about 1.5 quarts every 5000 miles. of course she has always drove it very easily.

 

needless to say with my 2014 gmc 1500 cc all terrain ive already put a tune on it and have been running the hell out of it from day one. I think if you don't get it good and hot internally early on the rings never seat properly and that leads to oil consumption later on down the road.

Bought a '98 Silverado with the 5.7 and broke it in the way the GM manual stated. At 70,000 mile I switched to Mobil 1. Drove it until this past March. When I parked it for the last time on the dealers lot the odometer was 285,000 and change. Starter, water pump, and alternator is all that was ever done to the engine. Always easy on the gas. Oil consumption was pretty much non existent. One awesome Chevy engine for sure!

from all the guys i work with now that use to work at dealerships say majority of the cars that had issues were owned by old people who drive super slow and baby them.

they all say that the engines are built to be driven hard and that typically last longer when they are.

I don't believe it's driving the vehicle slow and being babied,quite as much as just plain being driven. The more a vehicle is driven on a regular basis, regardless of how it's driven,the fewer problems it will have.

How long did I wait? What is this waiting thing, I own a V8 I thought your foot was supposed to try to go through the floor board? That's the way I was taught how to drive, own a V8 use all 8!

10 heat cycles sounds reasonable. Manufactures of new cars I've had all recommend between 500 and 1500 of mellow driving to break it in. If it was better for the engine to hammer on it right away, they'd tell you to do that.

I waited until about a minute and a half into the test drive when I got on the entrance ramp to the freeway.
