OEM Brake Controller

Unfortunately their is a whole list of options that people think should be standard. I know there is a thread on here already. If all of those options were made standard on every truck we would all be driving High Countrys or Denalis around. Then again not everyone has the cash to pay for all those options so you have to draw the line somewhere. I wanted the sliding window in my truck It however is paired with the driver alert package which I did not want. I'm glad I did not get that package now.

Not standard, but should be included in the trailering package, IMO.

AFA the Rear Slider. I have the Power Rear Slider in my SLE. I didn't have to buy the Driver Alert System. The SLE Convenience Package includes Power Sliding Rear Window, Power Adjustable Pedals, and Rear Park Assist. I could do without the power pedals, but absolutely love the Rear Park Assist. Love the Powder Rear Slider as well. The driver alert was in a different package.

because it cost money and would add to the base price of a truck. yeah it's not much but if they just made everything that people wanted standard people would be saying "why the hell did they put a trailer brake controller thingy-ma-jig on my truck I don't ever use it... it's ugly and I wish they didn't put it in there..." so yeah it's just an option

when I ordered my truck I specifically made 100% sure that it was on the truck. and if I was buying off the lot I would not buy a truck that did not have It.

Me too - i had to have it so my dealer found one that did. Simple as that - picking her up tomorrow.

I feel if you order the trailering package the OEM brake controller should be included.

I know you can't install the OEM brake control if you do not have it (JL1) but GM should have the necessary wiring etc. it in place if you decide to but in an OEM brake control later. Especially if you order the "trailering package". Most of the vehicles on the dealer's lots don't have it or the vehicles are delivered without the OEM brake controller. The slight cost difference could be added into the trailering package. It should be a plug and play option.

It can't cost GM too much to make the brake controller brake (GM equipment) a plug and play for later use if you get the trailering package. The dash is already cut out for it. They do provide a wire (extra cost) for an off market controller and a slight tweak to the computer/brake system maybe nothing if it is seen when you plug it in. It just doesn't make any sense to count pennies on an expense truck when people get this option for pulling trailers. There are many things (options) you get later that are plug and play. GM could make additional money selling and installing this item as well. I just don't think GM gets it unless Ram or Ford does it first. In some areas they are a few steps behind what customers want.

And watch the base price of the truck go up. If you could add it, the chassis harness is different, the chassis control module is different, the brake control module is different and then you'd also have to buy the switch.

GM should only put the wiring in if you order the "trailering package" which $770 option. If you order the OEM brake controller (complete item) it is only $230 option item. If GM just put the necessary wiring etc. if would be far less than $230 (maybe $125 +/- to the package) and GM could catch the customer on the other end selling the remaining parts if the customer wanted to install the OEM brake after the vehicle purchase. It should be made as a plug and play set up. GM already has many other things (options) that are plug and play (IE: bed lights). If you don't order the "trailering package" GM should not wiring it up for the OEM brake controller - saving customers the money for not having the brake. Most people who actually order the "trailering package" (NOT ALL) are going to put some type of brake control system on. The cost for the materials maybe more but the labor should be the same at the factory. You still have to wire the vehicle ether way. So I don't know what you are talking about it is going to cost a lot more -- especially when you only put it into the "trailering package option" which would not affect all the vehicles. My feeling is when you order the "trailering package" you should have at least the option to be able to put in the OEM brake controller after the purchase. It would not affect everyone in this set up and meet the requirement what I call a "trailering package".

In other words, GM should rename it to something else (make it more clear) so people are more aware with this issue. It is somewhat misleading when customers only want OEM equipment and can't do it after the purchase because they didn't understand what a trailering package is all about. it is not complete when you are thinking OEM equipment vs after marketing. A good percentage of the customers purchase their vehicle off the dealer's lots without the brake controller.

GM should think more out of the box and advance their thinking to people that actually do pull trailers etc.. It could be a win for everyone. Keeping customers happy and still make money without affecting the cost of all the vehicles. True truck people want to work their trucks harder not just make them look pretty. This is just my opinion because I like actual OEM parts and why should I look somewhere else (after market) when I spent this type of money on a vehicle. Giving customers more options on their trucks and making it reasonable in cost.

    • Can ask that about a lot of places.   Holiday sells 91 for $1 over 87 octane. BP 93 is 80 cents. Amoco 93 is 80 cents Kwik Trips is $1.20 for 92 or whatever they have and $1 for the 91.   I know that this is not exactly same as what you are saying with the premium to premium debate of those two stations but why is there such a difference. Top Tier this and that, it's all BS. All the fuel comes from the same damn refinery, so give me a break.
    • Why does Mobil Premium cost 90 cents a gallon more than Shell Premium when their regular offerings are but pennies apart?
    • Was all the way down to $3.69 a gallon but then jumped back to $3.99 just because for some reason.   Diesel floats between $4.80's to $5.10ish a gallon. I even saw Diesel #1 for $6.09 today but nobody in there right mind even buys that in the summer.
    • Mine just keeps lagging or getting stuck on the reverse camera. When I turn off the truck, get out, and close the door it will still stay on. It’s very intermittent and I would not be able to duplicate the issue.
    • I was checking out fuel prices at my farm fuel retailer at their pumps and yes the farm price is a bit lower than the non dyed fuel and was glad to see that the regular farm gas price has dropped a lot from what it had been but what blew me away was the price of diesel as the spread now compared to before the prices went up earlier in the year, diesel was actually slightly lower than gas which was a switch from the theme the last number of years. However that sure isn't the theme lately and definitely not right now. The prices I will post are not from that retailer but just looking at gasbuddy for the main city in this area and instead of posting the lowest price someone found I will list the higher price ( and that may not be the highest price, just whatever someone posted on gasbuddy ).   So regular gas and there are a lot of stations listing the same price for regular is 1.68 a liter, premium 2.00 a liter. Diesel 2.03 a liter for a top price I saw on diesel.   Figures out to 6.36 a us gallon Canadian funds for regular and 7.68 for diesel. With the US exchange rate it would be 4.58 us for regular and 5.53 for diesel.    Thought I would figure that out to get a picture of what it settles out like compared to various US prices and its about the same as the current price in Fairbanks AK as Anchorage tends to be lower. So yes, these would be the prices and higher along the way on the Alaska highway where they know they have a captured market !, for fuel prices for those beginning the long drive back to the lower 48   The problem is our Canadian dollar and going to the states that have the high prices, boy do we pay then !
