Question about hesitation with Tranny

Ok i try and make this simple. When I go up hills from a slow speed , I notice that the truck feels like it is hesitating to get up the hill under light load. If I give it more gas then it drops a gear and shoots right up. But if it is a light gas i can watch the tach bounce slightly as it increases until about 2200 and it smooths out... Normal?

If you came from a 4 speed truck before it will take some time to get used to how a 6 speed functions. But yes, this is normal. Gotta get into the gas a little more on these trucks to get into a lower gear to go up grade.

came from a 4 speed Chevy Impala SS. This is my first truck and also first 6 speed. I have driven many chevy express vans but none with a 6 speed. Just seems like it struggles but then again if this is normal, I will live with it.

my 2012 Express at work will do the same thing. i find that i will use M5 more often on lite grades than anything else. 3.42 gears, double over drive trans sucks on any little grade..

There is a big recall on the new truck transmissions, announced over the weekend.

GM recalls more vehicles for transmission problems

Also covered in today's announcement: Transmission software in nearly 400,000 trucks and SUV's that needs updating so that the vehicles don't slip into neutral on their own. Vehicles covered are four wheel drive versions of the 2014-2015 Silverado and GMC Sierra models; 2015 Tahoes and Suburbans; and the 2015 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL.

Recall is on transfer case... it doesn't resolve the "normal" described here.
