Intellilink/My Link

I've been searching all over the net and I've only found a few articles about GM adding more apps to the system. With the left and right arrows, one would think there are more apps, but there isn't. Any word on more apps being added?

It looks like apps will be available on the next generation of MyLink/Intellilink (2015 model). So far, everything we've heard or read says that it will not be backwards compatible with the 2014 systems.

Does this also hold true for potentially upgrading to Android Auto/iOS CarPlay capability in our 2014's?

I would be quite surprised if someone fully integrates either of those into our trucks. Not just the entertainment functions, but a lot of the body controls are run thru the system as well, door locks, chimes, odometer outputs on the cluster screen just to name a few, and I would doubt that an os would appear that could replace whats already there. If they do an overhaul of the system for 2015, our 2014's will be in a black hole as far as updates.

I sure hope they end up reconsidering that and making software upgrades available for 2014 owners. This is one of the selling points of the truck for me.

I think it should be like a new phone... Get free or small fee for an upgrade to keep up with technology.

It seems like gm is like the old 486 computers where you get what you get.

Now it seems like everything that has a computer gets an update every now and then except the my link system...

i swear this truck was advertised as being able to download more apps to it, ive been searching for apps since i bought it. it is listed as opensouce software so i assume if someone made a app for it you could upload it.

i know its not about the mylink but ive heard rumors that the onstar switch to 4g is just a software update for the 14 sierras, apparently thye are equip with both receivers much like a cell phone so its not far fetched, also it was advertised to say that the onstar remote app will work for 5 yrs from the date of purchase regardless of if you maintain a account with them.

We activated the On-Star trial period when we purchased our truck. Our trial period is over and the On-Star Remote Link App still works but with limited functions. After the trial you will only have access to the lock/unlock, remote start, and the horn& lights alert features if you do not pay for service. The NAV destination upload feature, Dashboard readout screens, and vehicle status emails will stop working after the trial period is over.

Hope this helps.

Yes but onstar will be cutting off all 2g signal which all their current systems run on. To maintain ability to connect at all you will need to be able to communicate on the 4g network, I was told the 2014 sierras have the hardware but will need a software update. This is happening sometime in 2014.. its posted on the onstar website.

I'm hopeful our mylinks will be able to get a few updates in the future. If not I want to atleast have a clear sounding radio when they release the new module fix.

I called GM and talked to the Infotainment div yesterday. I asked specifically about more apps being available. He didn't have an answer to that question. I was told that the 2015's will have mobile hot spots though. I was also told that GM is working with Apple to bring CarPlay to their vehicles. I just hope the 2014's will be updatable.
