Ditched the F150 for '14 Denali

It looks like you got the Good Year LS2's. I got them on my last 3 GM's and they are not good in any category other than they look good.

Go with Bridgestone Dueler H/L's or Michelin LTX M/S 2.

However, the G-Y's will only go 25+K so you won't have to wait long.

I love my '14, except for the horrible headlights.

my dad has 40k on his gy ls2's. while they are craptastic tires I am surprised they still have some tread on them.... goodyear = no traction....

I tend to not slow down for corners, so they're always scrubbing. My Bridgestones, same cornering, go 40-50K.

The Duelers have better wet traction, are quieter, and ride better.

I'm having to slow down on corners now with the G-Y's on my '14, will get them changed out soon enough.

The fact is EVERY vehicle manufacturer has it's problems. Ford, Dodge, Toyota, Nissan and GM make good vehicles but they are not perfect. I have had my 14' Sierra for almost a year now with zero problems. I have taken it in for the recalls but nothing wrong was ever found. My work vehicle is a 2014 Ford Taurus AWD with the 3.5 ecoboost and I must say that thing can move, although it only averages 17.5 mpg overall. This is my second Sierra and I will more than likely buy another one within 5 years (hopefully there will be a diesel option available for the 1500's). Anyway welcome to the club, you will find almost anything you need to know here with all the knowledge on this forum.

When the ecoboost came out it was hailed as the greatest thing since sliced bread with power, economy, and durability. Three model years in it doesn't seem like Ford has nailed down all three of these qualities in its ecoboost, but Ford's marketing has been fantastic and they sell a boatload of these trucks. I drove one a couple years back and the power was impressive, but I'm a believer in the old adage you don't get something for nothing, and with the reports of the gas mileage on the ecoboost, it seems that this still holds true. It will be interesting to see as the 11 model year trucks, the oldest with ecoboost, begin to hit higher mileage how their durability holds up. If I were looking at Ford, I'd personally opt for the 5.0.

Best of luck with the new truck. Hopefully you will be as happy with your GMC as you were unhappy with your Ford.

Bought the '13 in January. It was a loaded up lariat - hid lights, nav, moon roof, etc, with the EcoBoost. First sign of problems was the drive home when I pulled 13.0 on the interstate at 75. 2 months later the 4wd went out. In June the rear window shattered while driving on the highway and filled our car seats with glass. Mirrors would not fold in and retract after going thru a car wash. Also had issues with the power windows. I have a '12 f350 as well with 55k miles and it has never had an issue. The mileage on the ecoboost was a joke. Some days you'd get 13, some days 18. Never did see the window sticker mileage in 12,000 miles.

Thats odd that this truck would have so many problems. The rear glass shattering? Never heard of that before. Other than that it seemed like electrical problems left and right. As far as the milage goes on the EB I personally found out it gets better after 5,000 miles. Maybe the ECU is in learn mode or what-not. My Dad's 2012 EB is going strong at over 130,000. He averages between 17-19mpg depending on load.

This is my Dad's 2012 Lariat EB. He drives plenty. Tows quite a bit and its the best definition of a work truck. The only time its been in the service department has been for break pad and maintenance service. Other than that the truck has been flawless. After the oem Pirelli tires wore down after only 30k miles we switched out to some Nitto Terras in 275/55/20. They look great and his first set lasted him well over 70k miles. His second set just came in last week.

I realize Ecoboost's have had their share of early year problems. I'm a member of the f150 forums but just like any new engine/truck has its problems they do too. Have you read all of those wheel vibration threads here lately? I personally was looking at buying a 2014 Xlt with the 402A package, (leather, hid's, 4.5" screen....) but the dealer was only offering 6k on my trade in. I had never driven a GMC before. Went and drove a SLE Texas Edition and I fell in love with it. The ride quality was amazing, the sound the doors make when you shut it sounds like they glide into place. The engine, although not as powerful as an EB still has plenty of power and torque to tow anything I own. The Sierra was better equipped, $1,000 less than the F150 and they offered me $2,000 more on my trade in. After that there was nothing left to think about.

Ironic, I traded in my 2013 F150 FX4 luxury package with the 5.0 motor in favor of my 2014 Silverado. Added all the fun Roush parts and other upgrades but still never settled in with trying to really enjoy it. Didn't have any big problems you had but little things added up and bothered me enough after 10 months to trade in on my first ever GM product. I made out just fine on the trade to make it all happen. I'm not a brand loyal person with vehicles, just like what I like. So far so good enjoying the Silverado quite a bit.

    • There are probably a few threads talking about fuel mileage but this one seemed to fit the stats I have seen based on my typical local driven route but with different outcomes based on different seasons/temperatures. I have a few hundred pounds of items that consistently ride on the truck at all times such as a bak flip cover, rubber bed mat, tools and extra fuel so I would be something over 8100 lb without me in the truck. All these examples are based on a 100 mile round trip to a town plus running around town so maybe 110 to 120 miles in total for a trip. Using regular fuel and I assume it always has some ethanol in it but don't know the percentage they blend in. Also speed wise I am going at 62 mph and non aggressive driving although less speed yet if its crappy winter condition roads. I am going by an initial reset of the computer generated fuel use numbers averaged over a couple of thousand miles or so for each weather/season so they may be more optimistic then actual hand calculated numbers. Basically this is painting a picture of doing the same drive but seasonal conditions and temperature being the major variable to the end result. Oh and although I am in Alberta Canada, I am converting it to miles per US gallon so there is no confusion.    So winter time it gets cold here, no real surprise there and the roads can be clear at times but also often have packed rough snow or are are driving through loose snow ( they do a poor job of plowing the highways ) and yes this includes the extra idle engine time due to trying not to freeze ones butt off. 12.7 mpg is what I was getting during the winter months on average.    Then during the spring when it was around the freezing point and the highways are clear of snow, I was getting around 14.25 mpg.   Summer time, I have been getting around 15.15 on average but certainly some of the trips showed quite a bit better fuel mileage, so much depended on how much or little I had driven around town and number of engine restarts after sitting for a while at each location. But stating a best fuel mileage trip to town pretending that is what the truck gets on average is fooling ones self for sure !.      As I said in a different post, I had driven a 645 mile trip over a couple of days stint to a different destination then these other daily to town examples above, and was done during the summer with nice weather and not bucking a head wind, also keeping at 62 mph and its a rolling landscape type highway drive ( this isn't southern Alberta or Saskatchewan flat lands ) Hand calculated fuel mileage in this case though and it came out to 17.65
