Hi there

I own a 2015 Tahoe. Same story. It also has a roof leak and I have no sunroof. When you roll the rear windows down it makes an umberable noise. Don't know how to describe it.

That buffeting with a window down is pretty normal. Does it do it with the window up?

Last Friday, they traded me the Terrain that I was driving as a loner, and gave me a 2015 Suburban from the KY airport. It too, makes the same noise. So maybe it's the extended, XL and Suburbans, that have the issue. I have driven a Denali XL, Suburban and YUKON XL, and they all have the same noise. The service manager had video of my car with the liner down and it was "flexing" more than i guess it was supposed to. So they reglued and/or foamed, not sure, as they are being very hush hush, and the noise is still there. If I could do it over, not sure I would have spent the money I did. I DO TAKE FULL Responsibility, as I did not test drive the vehicle prior to purchasing. It had just come out, I was excited, my pregnant wife and 3 other kids sat in it and loved the size and DVDS, and I jumped for it. Who doesn't test drive before they buy? This guy.

I didn't drive before I bought. They didn't have it in stock and it was quite a demand. Now I realize that I was an idiot to trust this mother ****ers

2015 slt yukon

Wow so i am not crazy!!! I just bought a gmc yukon and at 45-50 mph your ears feel like they need to pop. After driving about an hr i have such a headache i needed to pull over WTF GM i thought you tested your cars in a wind tunnel??? I will be dropping this yukon off first of the week 65k paid i cant believe this could happen!!! Let me know if anyone finds out the fix to this.

I am having the same problem with my 2015 Tahoe. It also rain in and I don't have a sunroof. It is just disappointing. 60k on a piece of crap .

I got 7500 km mostly hwy. I didn't know why the headaches and the ear poping. I drove over the Rockies and I blame it on that. Stupid

Well, call me crazy, but we bought another one. Same issues, but this is literally the only vehicle that can fit my family comfortably. The dealership did the road force balance and added the extra "sealing" to the head liner, but still the same issues. We, as a family, have just learned to deal with it. The kids keep head phones on, and I keep the music cranked up. Maybe the booming is causing me to go insane and thats why we bought another one. The 1st one we bought was a GMC Yukon XL SLT with 20" wheels. This time we bought the Chevy Suburban LTZ with 22" wheels. There is no difference in the sound, my opinion only. All the trucks have this issue. We drove numerous models from all three (Caddy, Chevy, GMC). The dealership wanted to keep trying things, but I told them NO, and we picked it back up. They did however note on the paperwork that the truck was not fixed, but that the customer wanted it back.

No . But why is it normal? You were not suppose to drive with the rear windows down. I own a bunch of vehicles, all kind of years makes and models , I never experienced that.

Our trucks do that buffeting with the windows up hence the problem.

The only vehicle I own that does not buffet with a window down is my fj60 with its horrible aerodynamics. On my other vehicles I have to open other windows to cancel the vortices. Otherwise buffeting with a window down is very very normal and is probably due to the smooth air flow over the surfaces of modern vehicles.

@Booty: I remember your posts. In fact, I remember going outside to push on the tailgate glass just as you mentioned, but could find no flex. Can you tell us how you are able to determine if the seal isn't proper? Is it just a matter of inspecting the rubber seal when the glass is lifted? I just checked mine again just now with a flashlight but can't see anything wrong from the outside. The gap looks consistent and pushing on the glass allows for minimal flex. There doesn't seem to be any stop adjustments as there is on the tailgate.

Fog, The bad car I test drove and rejected had a "not tight" rear glass. Also when I closed the rear hatch by remote, the hatch closed softly. The rear glass on the car I bought is tight as if it were bolted tight ? When I close the hatch by remote it "slams shut" at the end of travel. It "bangs shut" Tight !!! I think that all rear hatches are "hand adjusted" or hand/eye adjusted/fitted . I think that but I am not sure. On all my doors on all the cars I have owned, the latches have had an adjustment or shims in place. Gaskets ? They just do not make rubber gaskets like they did in the past. Gaskets are thinner in wall thickness, feel like...plastic, compress more and just seem "weak". Fill the hollow gasket with Hardware store round foam weather striping ??? Just thinking.. Keep in mind that all glass in the car is under a lot of pressure. Try to imagine holding the rear glass out the window @ 20 mph. It would suck you out of the car !!! Good luck Fog and let all of us know what you find . All the best, Booty

FourKnuckles! The Legend! The original poster. Hard to believe you started this thread 18 months ago and GM still has no fix. I do agree with you that all of the trucks have this issue to some degree. I've been in too many. There is no way that I have been unlucky enough to have only been in "bad ones". Some are worse than others. Those who say their truck truck does not boom....well I don't believe you...lol

Anyone have a GoPro with one of those suction cup mounts? Like the ones you see used in the car reviews online. I was thinking today that it would be interesting to see what the roof looks like from the outside while driving. Exactly how much is this thing flexing?

I did this. The files are huge though. You can see movement. Also around 80 the roof appears to flex upwards. Interestingly I stop feeling the buffeting at those higher speeds.

Interesting. Could you edit it down and upload to google drive?

I will try. I tried once before and lost patience. I had the GoPro on max resolution so the files are huge.

Thanks. Google Drive will let you upload up files up to 5TB so no issue there as long as you have high speed internet.

Almost pulled trigger on '16 Suburban z71 yesterday, but this issue giving me pause. Tough to believe GM cannot come up with a solid resolution given the number of months this issues been out there and the number of affected units they must have access to through buy backs and dealer inventory. If it takes more than a production line tweak I wonder how long we will have to wait for a fix. Would be nice to know what percentage of units are affected...
