2015 YUKON NOISE IN CABIN

Just came across this article in my on-line Truck Trend mag. Appears the problem is finally being recognized. Anyway, Thought I'd share.

Some family members arrived yesterday in a rented 2015 SWB Yukon SLT with 18" wheels. I drove it for about 20 miles at highway speeds and also made a stop for gas. There were no noises or vibrations. Honestly I couldn't believe how quiet and soft the ride was. It reminded me of my dad's Cadillacs in the 80s with such a smooth ride and soft suspension. I didn't see any noise cancelling microphones, just one in front of the driver's head which I assume was for bluetooth.

Anyway great vehicle.

OK guys,I just changed the tires with new nexen roadian HP 285/45/22 the ride improved slightly and I disconnected the front mag shocks and what an amazing smooth ride but I noticed when disconnected the speed is limited to 86mph I will put resistor to by bass the limiter,

No buffeting?

No buffeting, no vibrations, I had no idea if/when it switched from v4 to v8, no problems at all. It had 17000 miles and felt like driving a luxury sedan.

Does anyone know how the roof bows are attached

Two ways. One, tap on the roof with your palm and watch to see if the whole roof resonates. Two, observe the roof while you shut the door. If the whole roof jumps then it is not attached.

My Yukon was at the dealership for a few days last week for the following:

rear axle replacement; rotor to rotor
headliner removed and inspected; bows were attached; they applied more adhesive to be on the safe side
possible road force balanced the tires some more; [unsure - haven't received paperwork yet]

The above was in addition to another road force balancing session and 2 tire replacements.

Results? It still buffets, peaking at 40mph and 70mph.

I experienced exactly the same buffeting at the same speeds in the 2015i Suburban that I drove while my Yukon was in the shop. Longer wheel base. Different transmission. Different engine. Larger wheels. Same buffeting.

The truck definitely drives more smoothly, especially at higher speeds. The field engineers were able to record a measurable improvement in vibration aftera ll the above was done - I don't doubt that.

I'm beginning to agree with what Wrench589 and others have been eluding to - this is a more deeply seeded resonance issue with the frame/body and not simply some out-of-spec parts that vibrate. Unfortunately, this is not my area of expertise nor do I have any interest in learning about it.

I just want a quiet truck for my family!

That sucks, I'm gonna look for one with 10k on it and see if it doesn't have these issues. Plan b. Consider different vehicle

Oops I misread, based on my discussions and reading the bows are glued to the roof with a foam material inserted between the roof and bow to take up space.

FogDucker I tend to agree. The sheetmetal being as thin as it is I can definitely see the vehicle being more sensitive to inputs than previous vehicles.
