I'm glad I need a truck. I did have a 2015 (not i) Yukon XL 4wd sunroof for 2 weeks in December, and I didnt notice anything.

 

It seems to me all of you should get a refund, posthaste. With a trade that is long gone it would get sticky I'm sure. When it gets to kids throwing up, that's crossed a line. It looks like GM is buying them back, and I hope they continue.

No dog in this fight; however, I have two. Both Yukon Denali's. One a 2015, the other a 2015i. the 2015 with 8,000 miles, the 2015i 400 miles. Never had the noise,pressure, buffet you have described.

 

What trim level is your trim level? ----- Yukon Denali (SWB)
Which engine? ---- 6.2
Do you have auto levelling suspension? ---- Yes
Do you have active noise cancelling? --- Yes
Do you have active suspension? --- Magnetic Suspension
2nd row buckets or bench seat? --- bucket
Roof rack cross bars? ---- yes
2 or 4 wheel drive? 4WD
18", 20", or 22" wheels and tires? 20" (off road use ... wanted the taller side walls)

 

---- Other : Trailering package, Underbody shields (installed but one is off and used as a pattern for stainless steel shields).

Anon2015 you either work for GM or your crazy!!! I have ridden in probably 15 yukons. From july2014 until the latest last week and everyone does it. GM rep in this area explained to me that every yukon does it just some more then others. 2015 or 2015i. I am not going to buy a new yukon at this point i just bought a left over denali but i am really close with the big guys at the dealership and also have bought so many GM with my business i have the reps cell number and talk to him every couple weeks. So the only reason i even post on here at this point is to help other people out. So try not to give anyone false hope. Or we will keep reading about poeple like the last guy that just bought the escalade that has the pressure problem.

Anon has posted more useful and technical information here than most others to help out. I haven't experienced the issue either. That doesn't make us crazy. And it doesn't mean we work for gm. Maybe you're crazy or work for Ford. See how stupid that sounds?

No, I do not work for GM either as an employee or consultant, nor does any family member (any more). My profession is acoustics and aviation. Equally to the point, I have tested both of my vehicles with exceptionally sensitive acoustic test gear...which simply does nothing more than make it clear your GM Rep's statement is incorrect. "All" is different than All less at least 2. Cheers.

 

BTW, if you want to publicly question my (or anyone's for that matter) integrity or sanity, I'd suggest you have the personal integrity to first stand toe-to-toe with that individual and make the same accusations.

With all do respect to everyone on this thread....I don't care if you are having a problem or not we need to be respectful of anyone and their input. There are some that have the issue and some that don't. I know I joined the thread because we have the issue and (at least what we have been told) that GM doesn't know exactly what is causing it or how to fix the problem yet. Nor do I like the fact that my $65,000 car is being taken apart to "try and see if this works" to fix my problem. I am hopeful that by being on this thread we can get some input on what to do to fix the vehicle. So everyone BE NICE!!!!!

 

I will say, we have the Suburban, but in driving different vehicles on the dealers lot while trying to see if others replicated our issue, the buffeting & vibration was more pronounced in the Suburban than in the Tahoe's we drove. The Tahoe's had it, but not as bad. (Unfortunately Tahoe is too small for our family.) We drove 4 of each with all trim levels. We have also driven a Cadillac Escalade ESV(long version) and felt it as well. They did not have a Escalade(short version) on lot for us to compare it to. So wondering if length of vehicle makes problem worse?

 

ANON2015- Since you are in the acoustics industry- I would like to know what equipment/machine you use to test for the buffeting. My whole point in asking is that we are scheduled to meet with GM Engineer in a few weeks and in knowing this information may be able to request the testing(if they don't do it on their own already). Also, you stated you have two vehicles that do not exhibit the vibration or buffeting, what is the manufacture date and manufacturing facility? If I can get a GMC Denali manufactured on "X" date from "X" factory and it doesn't do it, I would upgrade in a heartbeat to alleviate the problem and have a vehicle my family can ride in for more than an hour and not get a headache. Because at this point we are considering a 2014 or different brand.

Two different microphones have been used: Bruel & Kjaer 4179 and 4180. B&K preamplifiers and acquisition and analysis software . Initial testing was done using Audio Tools (Andrew Smith) with the iPrecisionMic. Went to the lab tools to verify we weren't missing something to 10Hz and 1dB.

 

Sorry forgot. Vehicle #1 is not at this residence at this time...don't know the build date but the delivery to me date was April 2, 2014. Vehicle #2 has a build date of October 14th. As far as I know, all Yukons/Tahoes/Escalades are built in the Arlington plant. They are both Yukon Denali SWB.

Bravo, we need cooler heads to prevail and stick together on this issue. The last thing we need is for this thread to be locked. I am buying a 2015i Suburban for family trips and to transport my grandchildren around and don't need anyone getting sick or feeling uncomfortable. Anon2015 thanks for your knowledge on acoustics.

My experience with the test equipment that gm put in the vehicle to pick up vibration and pressure. Doesn't pick up anything. They took my first one i brought back and had the gm of the dealership drive it around for a week with a controller hooked up. I guess when the service department sent the program to GM it came back as normal. Just a heads up that might happen to you. What i don't get is why GM is still testing customers car the same way that they have tested others that hasn't worked. All they need to do is communicate with other dealers. Its too bad they are wasting good customers time. The point is GM best customers are buying these vehicles.

Driving the vehicle around for a couple of weeks with a data recorder isn't going to solve or isolate this issue. While we don't know what is, or is not, going on in the labs to research the problem, the first thing which must be done is to determine if the cause is aerodynamic, mechanical, or electro-mechanical. I don't see that happening. What I do see happening is a shotgun approach to a problem by individuals not qualified to do this level of testing. That is not good...it appears like the Keystone Cops. If, in fact, a more directed and rigorous approach is underway, it would be helpful to GM's image to acknowledge that fact. That might inspire more confidence in the brand and in the process.

Yes, I have the same issue and it is driving me crazy, so I apologize in advance for my rants, my car made me do it.

 

I take it there is no fix for this yet, and will have to endure the parts changing stage at the dealer.

Anon2015, I am curious about the results you obtained with the microphones and analyzer. Were you able to measure the "noise"? If so, what frequency or frequencies is it at. Does the frequency vary with vehicle or engine speed, or is it fixed (seems fixed to me). Any data you have would be greatly appreciated. You can even PM it to me. I was planning to do a similar test but I don't have test quality microphones at my disposal. I do have a 2 channel vibration analyzer but not sure that is going to tell me much. Thanks!

Wrench...as I have previously stated, I do not have that noise in either of my Yukon Denalis. I did the measurements to make certain something wasn't going on outside *my* audible range.

Anon2015, I guess you can disregard my last post. I just re-read your previous posts and looks like you are NOT experiencing the issue, so your sound/acoustic measurements are obviously not going to measure it!

 

I am hoping to take some measurements myself in the new year now, with Christmas almost here. Any equipment you can recommend? Is there a decent software analyzer that will work and won't break the bank account? I was going to get a decent microphone for music recording, so thinking that should work for this as well. What should be used, condenser or dynamic? Omnidirectional or not? Thanks.

    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
