Questions regarding sub/amp and recalls

First question- I installed a 12" shockwave sub and a 2000 earthquake amp, stock head unit.. Problem is the sub only bumps hard on songs that are bass boosted.. If I try play country or songs that aren't bass boosted the sub almost sounds non exsistant.. What can I do to fix this??

Secondly.. I took my truck to a local dealer and had them work on my recalls.. One being a update for the steering cluster and all the gauges above the steering wheel.. He got all the way to the end of the update and it kicked out.. Started the truck fine but now my display by the rpm and speedo don't work.... He says I'll need a new cluster because it's "locked out' anyone have this issue???
