Air coming out of defrost vents only in 2007 Silverado

We had a problem with air coming out of the defrost vents only in our 2007 Silverado. Followed instructions found on this forum to disconnect battery, wait ten minutes and reconnect. Then turn key to start position and wait 10 minutes. Did all this (many times) and the a/c now works great, but the truck will not start. Called the local Chevy service department who immediately said we need to buy a new starter. Also called NAPA, Autozone, Advanced Auto PArts, Carquest and several auto repair shops, none have ever heard of this as a fix or knew what to do. Help, please!

I know this sounds simple, but make sure all of the cables were reconnected tithe battery properly. Also check connections at the distribution point. If you have a tester, check for power at the starter on the big lug.
