KMT15 Posted March 2, 2003 Posted March 2, 2003 I have a 99 Silverado Z71 with a stock rear locking diff (G80) is it possible to purchase this same one for the front end? I dont think I want to spend $600 on the Elocker -KMT15
WEFs99 Posted March 2, 2003 Posted March 2, 2003 I think there is a serious safety issue with a limited slip/locker in the front.
KMT15 Posted March 2, 2003 Author Posted March 2, 2003 Why, If you could add an eaton E-Locker, what wrong with the mechanical version? -KMT15
WEFs99 Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 I don't mean you couldn't put it in but I don't think the truck will go where you want to on slick surfaces. I believe this is why they aren't offered from thhe factory.
KMT15 Posted March 3, 2003 Author Posted March 3, 2003 can you explain that? I really only want it for off roading -KMT15
Dihappy Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 Not 100% sure, but i think 4WP's is offering the new Eaton E-Locker. He just means that a locker up front wouldnt handle too well since you need some slip to turn corners. Any manually activated locker would work well tho. My buddy has lockers front and back on his jeep, but he doesnt mind it much and doesnt drive it alot either.
steppetoe Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 I believe that there are also durability issues with putting a locker in the front end that do not exist with rear lockers.
WEFs99 Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 can you explain that? I really only want it for off roading -KMT15 In that case, go to it. Maybe. I do think that negotiating hills sideways might be a problem and is one reason they aren't that popular. It's worth a try anyway....let us know how it goes.
rikhek Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 You can't put the G80 int the front. Two completly different diffs. Like comparing apples and bricks. Also, as of now nobody makes anything to lock the front axle on an IFS Chevy. Rick
