Range V8 issue. Going into V4

On the way home today I noticed that my truck went into V4 mode with the Range installed. It did it for about 5-10 seconds and stayed in V8 the rest of the time. It did this yesterday too. I have the DIC on instant mileage so I am 100% it went into V4.

I called Range and they are sending me a second one in the last month. The first replacement they sent was for a loss of communication issue with my truck. This is version 7 which is the most up to date version.

Has anybody else had their truck go into V4 with the range installed? I'm going to give the new one a few weeks and if it doesn't help I'm getting the Intune to turn off AFM.

I'm running no Range until the new one comes in just in case it's defective.

I do not have the unit, however everything I have read leads me to believe that it is a piece of junk.

Not a fan of these. They are designed to override one thing in your vehicle and it either seems to not work or make other things not work. The system is too complex for a plug and play override module to properly work.. Get an Intune. You will like what gets done...

Just curious but what you read on them? Everything I've heard from both the truck owners and Camaros has been positive.

Chupe442 post just about encompasses it all.

I have had the Range module plugged into my 2013 since I brought it home, new, from the dealership, end of May 2013. Not had any instance I can tell that it went back to V4 with it plugged in. I think I would have noticed. I noticed it right away when I bought the pickup. Not so much the going to V4, but going back to V8. That is why I put the Range on the day after I bought the pickup. Before I read a lot about issues with AFM, I did this out of principle. I bought 8 cylinders, and I want them all to work, all of the time. Just the old Cavalry sergeant in me.... everyone has to pack the gear. No slackers. To me the AFM thing just reminds me of government and some union workers.... let others do the heavy lifting while some slack off. Not in my pickup.

I have not read or heard much of the Range not working on the AFD nearly as much as its interference with other things. For the money, it may very well be the sh*ts and well worth it. I just wanted more than AFM removed.

I will concede, that a tune is probably the best alternative. I would go that route, except I spend most of my week out on a semi truck and the wife has the pickup. If it needed to go to the dealer for an issue, she is not savvy enough to be restoring factory tunes and reinstalling custom tunes. Therefore, the Range is the best option I have at this point. When the dynamics change, I will probably go the tune route.

I think the Range might have screwed something up with my AFM. Ive been runningn Range for two days. Today pulling a trailer I had the truck in drive and it would only go into V4 when going down a hill. If I put it in tow/haul. It would go into V4 while driving on flat roads even with my foot still on the throttle. It never did that before.

Looks like I'm going to sell my new Range and get the Intune. I'm at least going to disconnect my battery for about twenty minutes to reset the computer.

You may be having some other issues happening as well.. Good luck!

Just an update. Did some more researching and it appears that Tow/haul actually keeps it in V4 longer than regular driving. There were multiple posts stating that other people were seeing the same thing on their trucks.

Before I had the Range I would never put it on the Instant MPG screen so I could never tell when/if it was ever going into V4 while in tow/haul.

Yes, it will go into V4 more often in tow-haul mode. And I bought my Range V8 used, and it's worked flawlessly for nearly a year.

Maybe it's because the engine is running at higher rpm (lower gears) at cruising speed.

That could be. I have never used tow/haul mode, even when towing, so I have not idea if that is true. All I ever do is use manual mode all the time, for a variety of reasons.
