Chevy silverado fuel gauge and pump

I have a 2000 chevy silverado ext 4x4 short bed z71 all stock. My gas gauge won't work at all I have changed a fuel pump 3 times and I've been told a new wiring harness is put on every time a new pump is put on. I'm not wanting to pay another $600 to have another one put on to only break again. Everything works for about 6 to 7 months and then there goes the gauge again. Hoping there was a cheaper or atleast permanent fix to this problem. I don't wanna keep having to judge mpg by the odometer

Maybe your paying for crappy fuel pumps.

 

If it works after install and it works for 6 mos, then you know it's not the dash gauge

 

I'd check the whole wiring circuit.

+1. What brand pump? I would only go oem on fuel pumps. Have seen way too many problem with aftermarket pumps. Unless they changed policies if u have installed at dealer, replacement pump is lifetime warranty.
