Programming Keyless Entry

Recommended Posts

It is my understanding that programming for key fobs must be done at the dealership. I've always driven Fords and I always buy a stick on keyless entry keypad for them. I hate to carry my keys with me if I'm out fishing or riding the atv as I don't want them to fall out of my pocket out on the trail somewhere.

I know this is a Ford product, but does anyone think it could be programmed to a new Chevy? It operates on the same basic principle as a key fob, it just has a code to enter instead of a single unlock button. This is about the only thing I miss about my Ford.

I seem to remember a few years back there were some keyless entry systems like this on Cadillacs, but that was before they went to passive entry systems. But I could be remembering a Lincoln I had for a short time...

Doubt it'll work unfortunately. Those keypads were largely a Ford thing in the past and now are pretty much exclusively a Ford thing. You could have a cheap metal key cut and use this to lock/unlock doors to get to the real keychain.

That's a good question. I have a fleet of trucks, and I put these on my fords, due to the fact they always lock their damn keys in the truck. I will look and see if I have extra and try it. Couldn't hurt. Nothing to program. I do miss this on my f150 as well.

I had to order another one for a new truck. I'm going to try and see if it works. If not, my SVC advisor is a buddy of mine, I will ask him and see if he knows. Keep you posted.

I seriously doubt this will even remotely work. It would require this pad to operate on the same frequency as the GM fob. Then would require the GM BCM to be programmed to accept this pad and that is if the GM BCM can have more than 2 things married to it.

A lot of variables there for sure.

I bet it can be done. Just going to have to find a good dealership tech that's willing to try.

How? The keypad thing is exclusive to Ford. No one else does it. Ford vehicles can likely be configured to work with the keypad. A GM one? Not so much.

I always put them on my fleet, I'm going to have it anyways. So why not try and see? Worse case it doesnt ..... I'm not out anything. If it does.. One more add on that I missed about my F150..
