Oil seep and warranty?

Given a hypothetical scenario of noticing a small oily area near an engine gasket on a newer engine, enough to hold dirt, but not dripping. At what point would warranty work apply? That is, is a specific amount of oil "seeping" from gaskets normal wear and tear and won't be covered? Or any visible oil bad? Or must be dripping to justify warranty work?

slippery slope imo ,,,but if a customer notices it ,it gets done ,,,,,cant hurt to try,,, but shiny oily is better

If its a glaze not a puddle with a little dirt and you have some time left on the warranty I would wait. I just don't want people pulling the engine apart unless its dripping or smelling. The old butterfly effect. I rather the dirt be on the outside than the inside.

In the dealership I work in, gm says it must be a genuine leak not a film. It would be cleaned off and returned to the customer.

My experience from working in a dealer was that just about any oil leak was washed off, and vehicle returned to customer. Customer was asked to bring vehicle back in a couple of hundred miles(basically a tank of gas) later and we would look at the leak then. If it was back or now obvious where it was coming from, it would be fixed. If it did not reappear, no fix required. Sometimes it was so bad we were back to not know where it was from. At that point vehicle was left, and we tried to pin down source. Due to creeping effect of oil, simply fixing highest leak point sometimes did not fix it. Most engines have a typical leak point to fall back on, for example Chrysler LA engines just about always had leaking intake gasket in the 4 corners. That was one repair that paid more under warranty than the same repair done as customer pay.

We most likely would put dye in the oil and degrease everything then inspect in 500-1000 miles.
