Y Pipe flattened area

Sorry if this has been answered before, but right behind the tranny the y pipe diameter is nearly cut in half when they flattened it... Anyone know the point or if opening it up back to full diameter would help flow?

Never mind, found an old post in another forum saying it was done for ground clearance. Kind of stupid to reduce the flow that much but what else is new.

They've been doing this for ages. I doubt you'd see anything by messing with the exhaust.

It was probably more effective flow wise to flatten the pipe out some versus putting a sharper upward bend in the pipe to get more ground clearance.
