So I went to the exhaust shop today...

I went to an exhaust shop today after I decided to get rid of my muffler and resonator for now until I buy a catback. At first, I was going to get them to cut it off before the muffler and put in new 3" piping all the way back but they didn't have enough piping to do it and told me to come back Wednesday. I left and called back thinking why not just cut off the muffler, flapper valve, and resonator and replace those 2 sections with piping but the guy basically told me no.

So my questions are this, everyone else who deleted the muffler and resonator, didn't just replace those two sections with piping or did you rerun the whole thing?

I kind of feel like he is trying to get more money off of me by not replacing those 2 sections.

I cut the first muffler (from the cats coming back---the first you see), replaced the tip and clamped the flapper valve open. Sounds great, still quiet under no loud, but a slight rumble on start-up and under WOT.

Find a better exhaust shop....if they don't even have enough pipe to do this "simple" install------I would NOT want them to touch my ride. It total I think I paid $75.00....I think the third cat is next to go

I left the rear resonator/muffler in place.

I would think you're going to have a very loud truck that drones on cruising speeds withour a muffler and resonator. But, that being your choice as the owner, I would take my money elsewhere to a place that will give me what I wanted.

Start with the muffler and go from there, at a different shop.

That's why decided to keep the resonator....

I looked at it like, I can always remove more. I have zero drone with the muffler and the adaptive valve clamped open. The third cat might get cut off today, undecided.

You mean it doesn't sound as good as a Duramax with a 6 inch pipe rolling coal imagine that. Most people that hear my muffler delete say that's sounds great how much, I say 40$. Most people cant seem to grasp that cats are also mufflers and so is the resonator.

Did you just do a muffler delete? Yours is a 14?

14 yes, muffler delete yes. I had my exhaust guy straiten the tailpipe too. I always do the duals with low rider pipes, just above the quarter panel turned down. We looked at all the cats and resonator and just hacked off the muffler put on a pipe. It was an experiment cost me 40$ sounds good. Been that way 8 months.

This. Seriously, if you haven't tried it, PLEASE just hack the muffler off before you spend $100's on a catback. It seriously sounds excellent. The only, and I emphasize ONLY thing I'm not 100% liking is when really cold there is a bit of "flutter" on start for a few seconds. Not bad, nobody notices but me, but it's there. This may be the flapper, which I left in. Call me crazy, but I kinda like the damping the flapper provides a low throttle and mine has never made any horrible noises or caused any operational issues.

Next week, splitting the pipe into duals out the back. Can't wait!

Ah I posted on another thread I pulled the trigger on a catback. Originally I was going with the corsa sport, but for an mbrp cat back for 300$ from auto anything after the promo code, and bought an airaid cai and an Xbox one. All 3 for the price of the corsa pretty much and the Xbox one came with 2 free games.

Haha I'll post a video on the mbrp. Hopefully it sounds half as good as it did on my 08 escalade esv I had.

i removed my muffler, and gutted my 3rd cat. however in doing so i lost fuel mpg drastically. im thinking about unclamping the flapper valve in hope of reintroducing lost back pressure. also in the process of doing this, i freed up the stock air box and am waiting for airraid to release there MIT/filter combo in hopes of balancing out the less restrictive exhaust.

I've watched some youtube's on trucks with the stock muffler deleted, and have to say I think it sounds as good or better than a lot of the aftermarket exhaust. My question is, what were the noticable differences between keeping the flapper valve in place versus deleting it too ?

I left my flapper valve in no drone. Loving the muffler deleate very glad I didn't waste $1,000 on a over priced exhaust. After hearing a borla system at the stealership Friday I'm even more happy. Just cut ur muffler leave the flapper and enjoy. You will thank us later.
