Stereo/SD Card Issues

Trying to use an SD card in my 2014 Sierra and not having much luck. In my other vehicle I can pop it into my Panasonic head unit, it reads 5000+ songs in 10 seconds and I have instant access to every file with no delay in song play or menu searching. In my truck however, it takes 3 - 5 minutes to load and during that time I cannot adjust the heater/ac controls or there will be a 30 sec - 1 min delay in adjustments. Once it finally starts to read the music I've noticed it won't read ALL of the songs, less than half it seems. Trying to navigate songs/artists is a nightmare because of the delay. Three times since I've had this truck I have started it up and the clock has reset as if the power was disconnected and reconnected.

Is this normal and the stereo in this truck is just terrible quality and it's time to upgrade or is there something wrong here? Hopefully, someone who has also tried the SD card with loads of songs can chime in. Thanks.

I recently started having my songs skip to the next and the next and the next etc on my SD card. Haven't tried a new SD card to see if mine is corrupted or what.

What class card should we use? How big can we get them? I have some 64gb SDXC card that doesn't work. I've tried formatting it to no avail. My 32 gb cards work.

It's from what i've seen a SDXC issue. I can get the truck to read my 64G card, but it stumbles and fails if i have over about 10gb on it. Have not seen the same issues with a SDHC card. I have a feeling that it can only address the first 32gb of a SDXC card, so if when I copy data on to it from the computer, if it lies in the first 32gb it's fine, the back 32gb it cannot handle the address.

Hi there

I'm using a Kingston 128GB Class 10 SDXC formatted as NTFS. I currently have 8,740 MP3's and 638 500x500 jpg's on the card using 82.8GB of space. The first time I insert it into my '14 Silverado it takes a bit to load but after that, whenever I start my truck the music is available right away. Just completed a 5,000 km, 3 week long trip towing my trailer, listening to music all the way and no glitches at all. Album covers and MP3 info all displayed correctly.

When I first got the SDXC card it was formatted with ExFAT which the truck didn't seem to like. Reformatting to NTFS seems to have done the trick.

Check out how your card is formatted.

I have a 2015 GMC Sierra SLT with the NAV radio. The first week I had the truck I tried playing music through the USB and it would never recognize the USB. Threw about 15 songs onto an SD card and it recognized and played the songs, but often play a different song than what I choose and would not go into separate folders. I recently set up a new sd card with all of my music and I keep getting a "No media device present" error message. Tried formatting Fat32, NTFS, MP3, M4A, etc, along with several different size and brands of SD cards. None of them are recognized. Called Intellilink customer service 2 times and they are clueless as to the problem. I have power to the USB slots because the phone will charge, and I put the original SD card that half way worked at first and now it will sometimes recognize it but it locks up and will not play. I have searched all the forums and tried all the suggestions I have seen and still no luck. Do I have a bad system, or has anyone else had similar problems?

Did you ever find out why your reader isnt working? Today I went to use my SD card reader and USB stick and neither worked.

I believe it was just plain FAT for the format. I was which ever format the manual said not to use. You would think that for as much as I paid for the truck the manual would be correct and I would not have to spend days trouble shooting the radio. Try putting just a few songs on the SD card at a time to make sure it works. I have 4-5000 on my 32 GB card and it took a long time for the computer to read and tag them the first time. ITunes and the GMC Gracenotes also do not play well together. I had to manually delete info for a lot of my songs because I would hit play and the truck would play a totally different song. Let me know if the FAT format does not work and I can pull the SD card and confirm that it is FAT for the format.

I tried to use my SD Card slot for the first time, formatted the card as NTFS, etc, and it still wouldn't recognize it.  For giggles I decided to lock the card (small slider on the card), and that seems to have done the trick.  Not sure why, but it worked for me.  Worth a shot.
