Should I buy one?

I have the opportunity to get a 2014 GMC Sierra SLT Z71 for a great price (know the owners of the dealership). I have had a 2007 Chevy Silverado (great truck but totaled it) and a Ford 2010 F-150. I was going to get a 2014 EcoBoost FX4, but because the deal on the GMC is so good and I like the look of the truck, I was going to go with the GMC. HOWEVER, I have been reading on here a lot of issues with the vehicle, especially the shaking/vibrating issue. IS this something I should really be concerned about? What issues should I check with the truck on a test drive before I go through with the purchase. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. this is my first time posting here, but not a noob to vehicle forums. Thanks! C

short answer is NO!!!!

way too many defects in these chevy and gmc trucks right now

I would not let a friend or neighbor buy one if I could stop them and explain all the defects and problems they will be buying into

buy a 2012 with low miles, they are still good trucks but issues started with the 2013's and went of the deep end with the 2014's and the 2015's will have all the same issues as the 2014's have, THAT is why they are offering such good prices, to get the lemons off of the lot.

even people who were careful to check the known issues had them suddenly appear after they put a few thousand miles on them.

are they all bad, no, there are plenty of good trucks out there that will never give you any trouble but its like a coin flip if you get a lemon or not no matter how good you check it out at time of sale

just my opinion, dont shoot me for having it

I appreciate your opinion. Positive or negative I will have to consider all the facts before dropping coin on a lemon. Thank God for vehicle forums...

But while you're looking - take a look at the surveys of folks on here who are completely satisfied with no issues (resolved or unresolved). Don't make your decision based on a few posters who had problems. It may seem like a lot of posts, but it's definitely relatively few. The negative posts just stand out. But good luck making your decision, and I'm positive you'll be happy with the GMC if you go that way.

How is it possible the 2013 are worse than the 2012? Same exact trucks?

Both GMT 900s with essentially identical parts.

wide spread rusty frame complaint issues started in 2013

its a cosmetic issue yes but not one I consider minor, I am not aware of any wide spread mechanical type issues with the 2013's

The voice of dis-satisfaction is loud, strong and persuasive.

Again, look at the owner satisfaction polls! Almost 80% are saying... Best vehicle I ever owned... No problems!

I am included in that group.

If you buy a '14, you won't be sorry.

Built in February, Bought in March, Not one problem.

Best vehicle I ever owned.

Luckily one of my best friends is selling me the truck, so I am sure I will be able to give it a good test run before i buy it. What specifically should I be looking for? I know I need to get it up to 80 to see if she vibrates. Anything else in particular to look for? Would this truck have all of the recalls installed in it since it is still on the lot?

Roger, I did notice this popping up on the forums. Something about changing the coating or just a failure in QC?

wow, okay. I will definitely give it a shot. I WANT to buy the GMC, i think it looks better and more professional than a 2014 fx4 Ford.

Does the build date have anything to do with any of the issues people have experienced?

I thought they said they switched who did the coating but I cant recall, I know it was cost cutting way to get it done cheaper and I think the problem was since they shipped bare frames to the place to get coated they had an oil coating to protect them and it may not have been cleaned properly for the coating to bond to the frames. I have to agree that sounds the most logical reason it peels off on the 2013's but not the 2012's.

I could be wrong but I think this is still an ongoing issue with the new ones as well

I LOVE my truck. 3k miles and no problems. Have had all the recalls done, yes 5 or 6... can't remember how many but the truck has yet to give me any problem. Definitely go test drive and let your own mind tell you. Don't listen to the forums cause you will get more negatives then positives. Most people only come on the forums to report a problem and see if there is a fix for it.

Build date doesn't seem to be a common thread. The biggest complaint which has been widely discussed on this forum, is vibration (no vibration here, along with 78% of all other responding owners). Other than that, all the recall issues should be done at the dealership before selling the truck.
