Should I buy one?

Not saying they were serious, have a 14 built last NOV and I have had 4-5-6 recalls already!!

Sucks for sure, but the fact that they are issuing recalls is a good sign IMO. Most manufacturers would maybe issue a TSB that can go un noticed and dealers won't perform them, etc etc.

In every forum for every vehicle, people with problems are much louder than those who are satisfied; those with new vehicle problems are even louder(as they should be). I've had mine for a couple months and haven't had any issues or recalls. Most will have no issues at all or at the most a minor one here or there. You just need to decide, as with any vehicle purchase, if that possibility is worth it. I'm glad I bought my 2014, bet you'd be too.

Still that risk tho, our company bought a few new ones all of them have been in the shop lots...sucks paying for a truck and it's not in your driveway...

What issues are they having?

A company truck is not going back to the shop for that drivetrain vibration. Recalls sure, but other stuff...its like a rental, unless it directly impacts the mission, it usually doesn't get addressed.

I wouldn't till issues get ironed out, honestly if I was in the market for a 1/2 ton I would go f-150

With the new one around the corner (well January I guess), they have reasonable deals on them. But its not like they are trouble free, sure they are at the end of a cycle so most problems will be ironed out. That said, the 5.3 mileage reported on here is substantially better than what the guys with 5.0 and even 3.5 are getting over there. Ecoboost owners aren't buying their trucks for mileage, but for power.

Still some issues popping up on new ones. Even 2012/2013 models are having some annoying issues (just like every other truck). The exploding sliding rear window with the defroster comes to mind.

The long and short of it is we live in a great time for 1/2 ton trucks. Yes they are getting more expensive but rebates are allowing loaded mid level (xlt, lt, big horn) trucks to be reasonably affordable and they are all light years ahead of what was sold 10 years ago. How many reports do you see of the GM or Ford 6 spd transmissions going bust? 4-5 years after introduction, there were plenty of 4r70w 4l65 failures.

No your right, Im glad GM is taking responsibility. What makes me concerned is the lack of QA/QC or initial engineering and design.

I think you hit the nail on the head with that statment. Even so my 3.73 geared eco with a drop in K&N was netting me 17.2 avg with 20 on the HWY. I think the misconception is FORD over marketed the MPG claims, they really didnt lie as if you look at it FORD kept saying 23mpg or whatever, which in reality that was a 4x2 3.55 gearing and HWY mileage. None the less the eco was impressive motor, if GM doesnt come out with something like that I will be heading back to ford when the chevy is done

Any forum will discourage you from buying a new anything. You can look at them and see if there are MAJOR problems but other then that a forum is where people to when they have problems. No brand is perfect, drive them all and pick the one that you like the most. I drove the GMC and the Ford, honestly the ford was a very nice truck but not enough to sway me to that side. I did not like the shifter on the console, among a couple other things.

The entire fit and finish is much nicer with a ford IMO, GM had fallen behind in the interior...it's nice but not as nice I don't think. That and you can still get into a decently equipped f-150 for 35-40 grand including a maintenance package, try that in Canada at a GM dealer. You won't find it. No wonder why they are offering 0% for 84 months for 14's, nobody wants them.

I'm not knockin GM. I love them, but let's just face some facts here boys Ford F-150 is REALLY hard to compete with these days..

As for the ones at work I don't have a clue I just know the ones we have have been gone a lot. My buddy is fleet manager, he told me they have been at the dealer alot. I go straight for 1 ton trucks so I don't kno exactky what happened but I could ask and find out. By a few, I meant like 30. We have over 100 truck in our fleet... Not just a couple bad apples either he was tellin me the GM's have been brutal.

Fun fact - ford f-150 has out sold Sierra and silverado for years in Canada. Their is a reason for it...

Once again I'm reading MPG in a truck thread, they are all awesome on fuel now. Over the life of the vehicle they are all so close in fuel price...who really cares

I test drove an ltz awhile ago, it was nice but kinda meh for the 60k price tag...a similar equipped ford would be like 45-50. With a 3 year maintenance package

I guess I'll never have to worry, unless my wife wants a half ton I won't own one...

Real trucks don't have spark plugs, gas is for washing parts [emoji24][emoji6] hahah jk

I'm just going with my personal experience with them, just haven't heard much good about them. And I probably have 5-6 good buddies driving fords now because of the pricing and maintenance package only...

I'm not sure where some of you are getting these awful deals from. I got my LT (granted not top of the line but still decently equipped, as you say) out the door for LESS than 35K.

I paid 31k out the door for a Texas package in Dec. Those deal are all over the place now.

Good thread. Nice to see both positive and negative comments from everyone.

The incentives in my area still aren't great, but finally improving. I wanted to wait for a 2015 but I really want topaz blue. They are currently offering me 33.5K + TTL on a 42K msrp truck. Not good enough yet more me to pull the trigger. But if I could get 33.5 or less out the door and they'll let me test drive overnight to really put some miles on it and see about the vibration issue I may grab 2014 yet.

    • The amount of storage in the rear seat area is huge. You can keep all your cycle gear dry and clean back there
    • Truck in fluid changes and investigate subtle shudder at cruising speeds.  Told them it felt like my ‘14’s shudder when AFM kicked in.   Dealer #1 :  You need a new torque converter.   6 weeks later, after causing other damages to my truck, I get the truck back.  Same shudder exists. New, more violent shifts and vibrations at low speed.  After choice words and a few more weeks of waiting for them to replace my running boards supports, I move on to another Dealer.   Dealer #2:  The cruising speed shudder is DFM.  (I didn’t realize truck had it.) The TCM/ECM needs updates.  Updates will solve all vibration issues.   They perform updates, truck seemed ok in lot.  Not a mile down the road, SERVICE BRAKE PAD MONITOR. Dealer #1 stated brakes were at 4mm.   took truck back to Dealer #2, rear brakes at 2mm and less than 1mm.     New pads/rotors on rear, new pads up front.   truck seems good. Toggle through menus, brake monitor system is disabled.  Huh?  Why? Turn that sucker on : SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM!     will not reset manually, automatically, or even after pulling negative bat cable for 30min.     Could the TCM/ECM updates the culprit?    A torque converter diagnosis for a “normal” shudder and now I’m thousands in the hole and the truck still isn’t right!  Beyond pissed.
    • Your right on. 👍🏻
    • Seats matter a lot.  I would start there - good advise here.  I had a 2018 LT Colorado before my 2026 LT Silverado, and the seats are so much better in the new one it's not even a contest.  That was one thing I always hated about the Colorado and I owned two of them spanning 10 years - but I did it so I could park in the garage mainly.  Now I have a much larger property and a huge barn so I have plenty of parking options and a full size is more useful for maintaining the property and current hobbies as well.  I wasn't evenb thinking about the seats as part of the reason for the move to the Silverado, but after two back to back 700mile road trips I am sold on the LT seats w/ leather 100%.  The other LT features are also nice - one thing I really like is the power rear window on the back window by the bed.  And the lighting in the bed is also very nice to have - I doubt that comes on the lower models.  Power tailgate - also quite useful - it's a heavy slug!  What else - I could take or leave the screen - but heated seats and steering wheel and cruise control on the steering wheel is very useable - I would never want to live without that.  Even the colorados had that.
    • I think the ship has sailed on the fuel injection type - everything is getting direct now.  Does it help with mpg?  Not really and nobody buying a HD truck really cares anyway.  But that is what it is at this point.  Piston rings is something they may well adjust over time to get them right.
