Updates/Upgrades available for 2014's?

So I've had my 2014 Denali with a 6.2 since April and am satisfied with it overall. The bad news is I test drove a 2015 Yukon Denali. (Heads up display for speed and GPS, blind side warning lamp in the side mirrors, wheel theft prevention and I forget what else.) I rented a 2015 Impala this weekend that had the warning signals in the side mirrors and it also had a text app that I never got working but my friend's wife has a Honda CRV and her car reads the text messages to you as they come in. I think Ford does this too.

Like anything in life, you buy it today and it's obsolete tomorrow but are these trucks designed to be upgraded so you can download new apps and add functionality to our "older" intellilink systems? Can we add or change our side mirrors to get warning indicators like other lines have? What about being able to set the cruise control and the distance you'd like to be from the car in front of you and have it automatically adjust the speed? The camera and collision alert is already there and it takes the cruise off now if you get too close.

I'm assuming we can upgrade and add apps but I haven't figured out how yet. The other items may be a stretch.

I imagine most of that stuff would require a lot more than a simple computer update to get.

Unfortunately, we've been told by GM that there really are no official upgrades available by GM including apps unless you go to the aftermarket. It would make sense to be able to add apps, but there aren't any available through GM. There are some members who added verbal texting, video while driving and more by changing out an updated module. The other changes you mentioned are not part of the 2014...not upgradable. Yes, those are nice to have, but quite a stretch. And on another thread, GM advised that the new Intellilink system for 2015 is totally new and not upgradable to use in the 2014 platform. They stated that it will have features that can be built on and updated, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

The text message reader actually works via your phone and Bluetooth. The lady on my phone reads out the message rather then the lady in my truck. It should be plug and play. Hook up your phone via Bluetooth then you get your texts read to you by the electronic honey and you can reply hands free. Keep in mind it's difficult to dial when there's a lady on your phone.
