Just brought home our new 27' Coachmen.  First time I've towed something that big.  Didn't have to go far, but my truck seemed to do pretty good.  The camper weighs about 4700 lbs dry.

Als,  It is the 270BHS in their LT line up.  It has a queen bed up front, double bed in the back with a small bunk above the double bed.  It also has what they call a "garage" in the back.  Basically a big door on the rear of the unit that opens up to a large storage area about 16 inches deep.  Pretty handy for chairs and other camping gear.  It also came with a neat fold-up igloo gas grille that plugs into one of the propane bottles up front.

Well, we finally got to try out the camper last weekend.  Towed just fine around 60 mph.  The truck does have to work at it at times and I got around 10 mpg, maybe 12.  Oh well, if I wanted gas mileage, I'd have bought a Sprint.

Sorry I missed this thread...  Congrats on the new TT.

I had a 30 foot Coachman that I bought new in 1992.  It was a very nice camper with the front bedroom and the rear bunks.  It was a quality unit, that never gave me any problems.  I traded it in on my 32' Jayco with the same layout, but this one has a 14' slide-out.

10-12 MPG's is OK.  If you do alot of starting and stopping it will kill the MPG's "Right Now".  If you were pulling in OD, then maybe yank it down to Third and go on the same camping trip.  Even though I'm turning more RPM's I get better milage towing in Third because the motor is in the powerband and is running more effeciently.

Enjoy your new toy...  I can't wait for the weather to get better up here.  (neither can my  kids).

Shaners,

Thanks.  A 32'er must have been fun to pull!  I actually kept it in 3rd the whole time and it even had to find 2nd a few times to climb some hills.  I'm probably due for a tune-up soon so that may also help, but all in all, I'm pretty happy.  For what a Duramax/Allison truck costs, I can buy a little gas!   :thumb:

Ditto!!!

If I were a full time Rv'r there is no doubt I'd want that combo...  but I own a piece of an RV park about 10 miles from home, so I can camp every weekend without towing, but if I want to hook on, I can go get it and be home in an hour to take the family on the road!!! It's the best of both worlds...  :thumb:

Congradulations!  We bought our first camper (28-footer) a couple years ago, and are having a ball!

Pulled it with our 5.3L for awhile, but at 6100# dry we were really stressing that little engine, and since we go out west (mountains, etc.) we bought a diesel.  At your weight, you ought to do just fine.

That sounds like a good deal!  Does your campground have a webpage?  We might come through there sometime.

The campground that I have my site in (actually I own 2 sites), is part of the "Coast To Coast" camping association.  It has a pool, 2 stocked fishing ponds, miniature golf etc...  They usually have a band playing in the pavillion on the weekends.  I usually cruise around in the golfcart and drink a few beers during the day, and then I'll build a fire and drink a few more beers in the evening.

Here is a picture of my camper on the new concrete slab I poured last summer.

I just bought a new TT today. I traded my 2001 Sunline 2980 (30 footer) for a 2003 leftover (267SR) 27 footer with a slide. Even though I lost 3 feet, I gained a 3 foot slide about 14 feet long. We decided not to make the swap until April. I wanted it to look new when we first used it. If we completed the transaction now, it would be sitting in my yard under the trees for a few months before we could use it.

We spent the afternoon trying to decide where to go this summer.
