Engine Rebuild Options & Info.

So I finally got my exhaust leak fixed at the collector over the weekend, but it revealed another problem on Monday when I started the truck up before work.

I have a dry start problem for some reason? I could never hear it before over the exhaust leak. The oil pressure isn't terrible even though it's less than I like, and the engine still runs great, and it doesn't have any major knocking or tapping going on. Either way the dry starts will not help the engine at all.

So now I have to figure out what to do. I'm looking at either a rebuild or finding a lower mileage used L33 to swap in for now. If all else fails price wise I'll buy a new crate motor, but right now that is my last option.

The only issue I have is not knowing much about the motor swap. What's all involved to make a random motor out of a different truck work in mine? I'm not sure if or what needs to be reprogrammed security or engine wise to make it work?

Whenever I start it up after sitting for about a week or so you can hear the motor clanging like it has no oil being pumped, and the oil pressure takes a few seconds to come off of zero. Never noticed it before, but I had the exhaust leak, and couldn't hear it, and I was always starting it every couple of days. Last week was the first time it's sat for over a week. It also gave me the low oil pressure warning in the DIC the same day I could hear the dry start. Never saw that before either until then.
