Anyone know of a kit for the 03's, had a R&D on my 99 and really makes a difference when all 4 stay lit on high beam. A friend of mine ordered a R&D for his 03 HD and had to send it back,  wasn't even close to working but that was a few months ago.

Just heard back from Kennedy Diesel.

I ask:

" I have a 2003 Chevy truck. I understand that Chevy has changed the wiring throughout the truck for the 03 model. Will the headlight booster work on my truck?"

Reply:

"Yes, but the brightener plug will need to be install like the  early trucks as per the instruction pkt."

What is a brightener plug? Well I guess I'll find out when I get around to ordering the kit sometime do the road.

This is scary. I just ordered the R & D for my 03 Tahoe. The website makes it like no big deal. I ordered that and the foglight controller.

I will let you know I guess when I receive it.

Their website says 99 or newer.

Nope, Does not work. The wiring definately changed in 03. I do not have a HD of any sort. 5.3 Tahoe Z71. I sent R&D an email on Saturday to ask about a return, or better yet, a new schematic with the new wires to connect to. But as of now, I have not received a response.

I will post if I get a new wiring diagram for all of the 03 users. :jester:

toddoughty, R&D will not reply back.  I e-mailed them a question couple of times and no reply from them.

Good Luck,

I ordered the painless wirig kit for my 2003 since they did list one for the new models. I figured I would run this until I wanted to upgrade bulbs, then I might go with Kennedy or Caspers Caspers Electronics.

How did you get a response? Did you call? Or did you just get nothing?  I guess the 30 day return policy is going to be tough to get huh?

My daughter was going to get me one for Christmas for my 03 Yukon but could not find one that worked.  She contacted Premier Motoring Accessories and they advised her of the wiring problem between the 02 and 03's.  They recently sent her an email telling her they had a kit that would work.  It is item number QB506.  Their site is www.premiermotoring.net  Hope this helps out.

Thanks Traveler-

I may have to go that route. Thanks for the website. I call R&D a call this morning as well. Left a message. I will see. Worst case, I will return R&D for another

Thanks again,

OK, now I am getting pissed. I have emailed them 4 times. Like said above. They do not reply. So I called, I got the voicemail. So, I am going to call everyday and email everyday. If I get nothing after the first three days. I am going to leave a voice message every 5 minutes until I fill their recorder. I am also going to send an email every other 5 minutes for the same. I am still holding out as "something" must be going on, not that they simply don't care or respond. So, I want everyone to know what is going on. All they had to do is respond. I guess they assume that I only spent $30 that I will not cause their life ####. So, if you were thinking about ordering this product. Choose another vendor for now.  :flag:

Hey todd............

You need to setup a automatic mailing script that sends that mail out for ya every 5 minutes.....

Is It possible that they are on spring break?  And just not checking there stuff?

Posted

They are in Minnesota. I was kinda hoping they were snowed in and could not get there. That would be a good excuse, but Spring Break would work too.

Thanks for the idea on the email

At the risk of being repetitive, using the diode method for less than a buck will give you the mod you want. Here is the quote of the method from Scott (amckitt). This works, and you have a very bright set of high beams.

=======

Go to Radio Shack and buy a cheap diode and do this, if you know how to solder.  I have run this modification for several weeks and love it.

I did some "fiddling" with this last night & figured out how to do it without spending anything.  I used 2 small pieces of wire & a diode that I had at home.  OK if you were doing this it may cost you a buck for the diode from Radio Shack.  Here is a pic of the temporary setup I made:

http://www.home.earthlink.net/~smckitt/relays.jpg

On the fuse box cover it shows which relays are for the high & dim lights.  I also discovered that the negative is what is switched, not the positive.  I located which pin on the relay is the one that is switched, this happens to be pin 85 (I think) on both relays.  So I simply wrapped the wire around that terminal on both of them & put the diode in the middle.  The diode allows current to only go in one direction.  So when the dims are on the current cannot pass to the high relay, but when the high is on the current will pass to the dim relay to energize it & turn them on also.  I did this in about 10 minutes so it is not real pretty or "safe".  I will find what the current is through this diode & decide what size wire & diode is needed.  So now I am thinking if this can be done, then the DRLs & fogs could be done in a similar way.  Hmmmm.....
