'91 s15 Jimmy won't start.

The engine will turn over but won't start. We have replaced the distributor, plugs, and wires and still nothing. It's getting fuel no problem.

Is it getting spark to the plugs? Have you checked fuel pressure? Checked timing?

It is getting spark. We got it to run but not well it sounds like it's misfiring and we tried timing it as well. Replaced the ignition coil too

You tried timing it? Does that mean its 100% correct? Or dont know. Sounds like timing is off by description.

Not too sure if timing is 100%. Would that cause the backfire or the buildup of exhaust? We were also thinking it could be the egr valve.

Yes, timing being off could cause a back fire. Until you get the timing 100%, I wouldn't mess with anything else.
